A true friend is a little more than a very good friend. A true friend will support you even if it hurts his/her own interest. A true friend will understand your motives and needs and will be with you without any analysis or criticism. A true friend will come forward to help without any request and be with us in need without showing it or expecting anything in return. With a true friend, you can be sure that you will get help to the extent possible by him/her. Nothing will remain unturned. A mother is a true friend of her children. If we share such relations with an adult we can say that we are true friends.
A true friend makes no excuses of having work or appointments or anything but will be with you whenever you need him/her. In your hour of desperation, a true friend will support you even if the whole world opposes you. A true friend is not an opportunist. A true friend means to have someone who is like mother, as I said earlier. Instead of having hundreds of good friends, if you have a true friend, treat yourself lucky. If you can also become a true friend of someone, you will be blessed, because it is much easier for all of us to expect but very difficult to give. Be a true friend yourself first.
Yes, I have found some true friends in my life...and been one as well. It does mean sacrifice sometimes...like dropping everything to go pick one of your friends up at the airport because his parents need the van and are following hours behind him.
Or, when one of my friends dropped everything to come over and watch tv with wine coolers and chips in hand when I needed company, but couldn't leave my husband unattended.
The above who is coming over to trim nails is driving one of my cars...has been for months...because he lost his to repo to save his (now ex) gf's house. But he has done many things in return for me as well.
And when Jenny started a hugging thread on here because she could tell I needed one of those tonight. And Trish, for her wonderful insight and compassion.
Sometimes it's even the small things...a hug, or a cheer whenever it's needed.

I reckon a true friend will never, ever turn a trick from your sadness into a matter of their own sef interest
Who will help you in the hour of sickness; Who will lend you a dollar without deducting the interest; Who will help you uphill when you are sliding down; Who will defend you in the hour when others speak evil of you; Who will believe in your innocence until you admit your guilt; Who will say behind your back what he says to your face; Who will shake hands with you wherever he meets you, even though you wear patches; and Who will do all these things without expecting any return....

Thats the one Hugs - when they dont expect anything in return - thats when you are minded to give them all of your love and gratitude, to show them abundance and grace simply for their existence - this sort of stuff is earned, its love and true sharing - it is not about hedging your bets ad wondering if there is truth there - its just known... and aprecciated for its warmth - theres no need to wonder about it.... its just there......

One who turns down a buddy's invite to go out for beer ON THE BUDDY to come help you trim your dog's nails and change a lightbulb. That's a friend.
Anyone else got a real good one?
