Yep, they do that with me, too. But I have my IM turned off. Hate the thing! It still lets you know who tries to IM you. I have used it only rarely and with purpose.
Stupid? Who knows, but they are the ones wasting their time, right?

I recently reminded someone that my IM was turned off and that it says so in my profile. I weakened and thought I'd be neighbourly-like. I said that if they wanted to contact me, it would need to be on the forums, or email/flower. Never heard from them.
