RE: Slumdog Millionaire

Wow.....makes you humble!
A great movie, I was hesitant to see it but I am grateful I did!

RE: the color purple

Extremely emotional, strong message. Very uplifting, although impacting long time after seeing it.
Not a movie you just decide to get some popcorn and watch it. A bit more challenging intelectually.

Schindlers List

RE: Schindler's List

I think it was a brilliant movie. I was extremely moved by it.

Maybe not that easy to understand for somebody who's not close enough to the whole holocaust story.

Cinderella Man

RE: Cinderella Man

The origional Rocky!

This here is a must see for anybody and everybody! Crowe plays Jim Braddock, a pre depression era champ on the boxing circuit who does well but not quite. Come the depression, and, a few years on him, he is in the gutter trying to support his wife and kids. His boxing days finsihed with an injury and blacklisting for poor performance in the ring, he is lowered into the pits of pressure and reality as he struggles just to feed his family.

A long shot deal where he is given an opportunity to make a quick buck by being a rubber stamp victory for a fighter who needs one more fight to qualify to take on the reigning champ Max Baer (Jethro Bowdine of Beverly Hillbillys real life father) turns into a non stop series of fights. Here, his skill from before, mixed with his desparation to never return to the abyss drive him to victory.

A note for those who saw the movie. The real life Max Baer was not the monster you see in the movie and he was played that way to gain the emotional highlights which made this movie better. He was a generous and honorable fighter who kissed Braddock at the end of the fight.

3 Days of Condor

RE: 3 Days of Condor

Oh this one was good! Redford plays a research geek in some obscure CIA cell in Washington where he unknowingly comes across something (been a long time since I seen it so bear with me) that triggers alarm bells with the spooks. While he runs out to get coffee, a cleanup crew arrives and takes out the entire office. Then it's on the run as he begins to unravel why and who is after him.

I beleive this was the first of it's kind and, the template for so many spy films to follow. It was a good one though.

Schindlers List

RE: Schindler's List

Gave this one a five but is actually a bit lower than that (something like a four and a quarter) but, for a depressing subject it has it's high points and is a testament to the good that is within us all.

Funny that something this much of a downer can hold your interest and keep us on the edge of our seat. For that ability to tell a story in such a way it is worthy of being one of the greatest movies.

kite runner

RE: kite runner

Boring. And, like Dr Zhivago, a little far fetched in it's conincidences to be plausable. Takes away from what could have been a beleiveable story of friendship and honor.

The Patriot

RE: The Patriot

Yes was a great one. A movie that takes the sugar coating off a dark yet glowing time of freedom. Action packed and with enough good and bad guys to keep you watching.

Star Trek

RE: Star Trek

I like all things ST except for the Space Station 9 or whatever it is. You know, the thing with the wormhole close to it. Didn't like that but, loved the rest.

The grudge

RE: The grudge

Won't say the best but will say it was scary which puts it well above most horror movies. I also saw the Japanese versions Ju on and Ju on 2. All were pretty creepy to say the least.
