The Miracle of Nain (Luke 7:11-16 - King James)
Sadness and gloom enveloped the room,
barely a word was heard.
A widow much loved by friends all around,
now comforted by many from all over town.
Her only child, a young man - now dead,
was laid in a bier as the writer has said.
The time was at hand to bury the young man,
so off toward city gate they'd go.
When approaching the gate, twas widow's good fate
to cross paths with one who'd know,
the pain and the grief of such great loss,
as He himself would soon die on a cross.
His Father's only Son, sent to be the one
that would die and yet rise again!
To give victory over death to all who believe,
and confess then repent of their sin.
Twas He that declared "Dear widow, weep not!"
as your eyes will soon behold,
my compassion of heart and purpose of thought
for "LIFE" from death to unfold!
He touched the bier as all stood still
to hear his command with doubtful surprise.
The man in the bier that death did kill
was brought back to life with..."ARISE!"
Some were shocked, some quite amazed
as to God their glory they declared!
Some were speechless, many just gazed,
but all eyes upon Jesus just stared!
God has shown mercy - our worship to gain,
in sending His Prophet to the city of Nain!

About this poem:
I was inspired to write this poem when I contemplated the idea of Jesus knowing this widow's grief due to His own knowledge of separation from His beloved Father. Being God's sacrificial gift to mankind for the remedy of sin and death, Jesus knew a level of grief and pain beyond anyone's imagination. He did what He could to ease the hardships of those He ministered to as a means of showing where hope was to those who otherwise saw life as being hopeless!
Just as true today as it ever was! .... Jesus saves!
