The Tupelo Teddy Bear.
Are you Lonesome tonight without True Love?
Is your Wooden Heart heavy with care?
Then just for Ol’ Times Sake, please read my story,
of the Tupelo Teddy Bear;
Many stories are told, each in Separate Ways.
Now in My Way it’s told through his songs.
It Feels So Right that I tell it this way,
for then in My Way I can right all the wrongs.
The Cotton Candy Land of the American South,
is from where the Teddy Bear came.
Way down in Memphis Tennessee.
It’s where Heartbreak Hotel came to fame;
Good Rockin’ Tonight it was all the rage.
And the Party was starting to swing.
And miss Polk Salad Annie, she was telling the world,
“This Teddy Bear, he sure knows the way how to sing”.
Now Colonel Parker, who was a Big Boss Man,
heard the Teddy Bear sing for his Ma.
Then he took him aside, with his Young Dreams and pride,
and said ”My Boy, I want to make you a star”.
The Poor Boy said, “Shake A Hand on that
but I Beg Of You, please, Treat Me Nice.
For soon I’ll be King Of The Whole Wide World,
then Fame And Fortune will demand a price”.
And true to his Words did he Follow That Dream.
‘Cause From A Jack To A King he rose.
Along the way doing GI Blues,
as a Soldier Boy Uncle Sam chose;
But then Trouble for the first time marred his dream,
when in his own Words he said,
“I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell like a baby,
when I heard That’s Alright (Mama) was dead”.
But with one Burning Love gently going out,
another had Come along in his life.
And to the Young And Beautiful Priscilla Beaulieu,
he said “How Would You Like To Be my wife”?
“Love Me Tender” was her sweet reply.
“Then All That I Am I’ll give free”.
And true to her Words she bore him a child,
a Baby named Lisa Marie.
But too soon Summer Kisses turned to Winter Tears,
for their marriage So High had gone low.
And then to his surprise she said “I Don’t Wanna Be Tied,
you Stop Where You Are, I’ll go;
He cried “Without Love (There Is Nothing).
You’re A Heartbreaker who’s so unkind.
Yet though you’re leaving me Indescribably Blue,
you’re still Gentle On My Mind”.
to be continued in a bit

About this poem:
This is an amazing discography of many of the Kings' songs.
I'm sorry if it's a bit too long for some.

Discharge from Army(at a stop on his way back to Memphis) -1960
(So many claimed to have his child, or be his child - but no paternity test needed for the real daughter - looks so much like him)
Saw this in person - w/Lisa & Priscilla in Memphis Aug. 1997- 20th anniv. of his death. (They checked everyone for cameras, but someone still managed to get a vid.cam in)
Singing along with Elvis, being a father of daughters myself it brought me to tears.
Lovely Thanks.
I too want to thank you for posting the video with Elvis and Lisa Marie singing together. I have been wanting to see it for so long, living in Sweden though, such wishes sometimes go unheard.
You are also right how alike Lisa is her father. If she was to be a boy, we might have had a new generation "Elvis"
Thank you again, so sweet of you.
I hope grandad does not mind this gesture of appreciation from me.
Do you?
Say no more!!
Thanks so much --to Grandad for That lovely poem--down 'memory lane.'
By the way--I'm an Elvis Fan too!
That 'Beautiful Rendition' was a 'Lovely Addition' to yr poem--thanks to the 'One' who sent it.
I was a Daddy's Girl, Myself--he has passed away--but 'memories' linger--and seeing Lisa Marie and her Dad--truly brought back sweet memories of My Dad.
Thanks again--to 'Both of You.'
