Manure, etc.,

I am often plagued by a very existential question:
Am I doing what I should be doing, or have I been led astray from my destiny?
Don’t laugh, things like that bother some of us…,
Am I living in the right place,
Am I in the right profession?
Am I with the right person?
Am I?
Etc., etc. …

A couple of years ago, I came across a gem of a philosophy that helps me a lot with this quandary:-
Whatever presents itself in front of you right now,
This is your destiny now,
Do that now…

Wow!
At first this concept blew my socks off,
Why? Say for example, I happened to be shoveling manure at the precise moment in life, when I came across the concept, does that mean shoveling manure should hereby be my destiny?[now, some people no doubt would enthusiastically say yes, but, that’s another matter…],
But then, as I ‘delved’ deeper into it[steady now…],
Which is allowed, since ‘it’ was ‘in front’ of me, hopefully, as opposed to ‘behind’ me, it began to make more ‘sense’…

In brief and in an attempt to clarify the philosophy, one would answer ‘yes’, be the best ‘manure-shoveler’ you can be…,
Some of the many obvious benefits[if the laughter genie grabs you and you wanna add some more ‘benefits’ in the comments section, feel free to do so, har, har…] to such a destiny is that:-
You’ll have a show-piece of a garden,
Annoying people would avoid you,
People would make way for you at the supermarket lines, especially if you’re not the ‘frequent-bather’ type,
Your friends would be few, but they would be ‘real’ friends, the kind that would suck the venom out of you if you were bitten by a viper in your ‘gluteus maximus’[‘cmon look this up, you’ll be glad you did…],
You would save oodles of money in clothing, no expensive Pierre Cardins for you,
If you keep a low profile, you can probably get by without the FDA’s SWAT team descending upon you for ‘practicing’ organic farming without a license,
And, lastly, but definitely not leastly,
Its an easy and legitimate escape from a nagging wife…

So, heck, don’t knock it, as you can clearly see, the benefits, are endless…,
There is indeed a bright future in shoveling manure, and it’s a noble destiny[from the point of view that people will thank God and you, that they don’t have to do it…],
I wish you happy shoveling…
In awareness…

Dear EGT

Shouldn't one get one's gardener to deal with tasks such as shoveling manure? As regards your reference to 'Gluteus Maximus' - wasn't he the foreman on the job when Emperor Hadrian built his famous wall between the Solway Firth and Wallsend (near Newcastle-upon-Tyne).

A very amusing write

Best wishes

A very amusing write EGT. My Grandson is interested in gardening just now, when I told him manure was good for growing stuff, better than anything out of a bottle, he went YUK!! roll eyes he never believes a thing I tell him.

You certainly must go through a lot of socks. do we not pretty much wade through life considering the benefits and the drawbacks of this, that, and whatever? as to vocation, for a lot of us it seems to be determined by which direction the wind might blow (of course, were you, manure spreader, near, one might opt to locate upwind). there are many who are driven to succeed in a particular profession, and I have nothing but awe (and jealousy) for their dedication. but, I have learned that people are all too often defined by that which they do to earn a living or by the possessions they might own. I suppose that is just human nature. but this attitude aggrivates some folks for they feel as though they are much more than merely the total sum of how they earn their money. now I forget the question...oh well, nice write...see 'ya in the funny papers...

EGT,

What a positive poem. Even if shovelling it is your destiny...it has its advantages....always look on the bright side. Great philosophy and a wise parable. cheers

This is a good thought provoking write tho not a romantic subject. Do you think stepping on manure gives good luck? The scarab is considered a good luck charm coz it could carry rolls of manure on its back which he uses for food & larva, a symbol of rebirth & renaissance. Manure if recycled could give energy like fertilizers, etc. Bravo for an interesting work & thsnks for sharing.bouquet teddybear bouquet
