When I was just a little kid. I’d dream about stupid stuff like masquerading as El Cid.
Castles, warriors, battles and more... I’d wake up in the middle of the night dreaming about.... death duels with Tizona, his famous eleventh century sword.
His great warhorse, B A B I E C A captivated me. Mere presence of the two instilled F E A R in the enemy easily.
Just a blip of existence where man and beast unite carved themselves into history for generations delight.
Lord master of military arts, ended on the back of Babieca when El Cid was stabbed in the heart.
Thou death do us part is the standard today, these two warriors are buried together in the monastery of San Pedro de Cardena.
I used to think and dream about the legendary city El Dorado...such disambiguity still rides....you think?

Hi Sunday,
When I was a kid...I remember going to the pictures to see "El Cid". Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren if I remember rightly. I didn't have the history books to read up on the real person in those days and there was no such thing as the internet. But one thing I do remember distinctly in the film was that although he was mortally injured...they strapped him onto his horse and he inspired his men on to victory. Thanks for refreshing some old memories.
I was shocked when I read that he was strapped to his Babieca after he passed. No wonder they are buried together. BTW, Babieca lived to be 40 years old and died two years after El Cid. WHAT HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excelent poem...El Cid, part reality, part legend...I remember the movie back int the 60s and the actor was Richard Burton. But my favorite is Don Quijote,I laughed out loud with these two chareacters,Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.
