Serenity

When the school bell rang,
she purposely missed the bus;
avoided all the hoopla,
the noise,
the obnoxious,
the bullies,
the sound of cuss.

While they sat around
pretending to be cool,
she ran her heart out
ran away from the fools.

They all seemed to blend;
blend into the night;
the next day...
it would start all over
as she cowered in fright.

They were the bullies
the power of numbers,
the rats creeping
under the bus seats.

She would close her eyes,
lift her feet,
pretending to blend...
became an overwhelming feat.

So she learned to run.
She ran and ran and ran
day after day...
all the way home
as the screaming bus
passed away.

Serenity.

Hi Sunday, very well written, not seen you for a while but your words still carry the familiar "Punch". Bullying is a thing that has gone on since the beginning of time unfortunately, I wish I knew of a universal answer to it. Lots of people have lots of advice. I was one of the bullied at school, after a move from the south of England to the Midlands. My "Crime" was that I was a clever clogs and spoke posh....I endured it and my well meaning parents that forbade me to fight. I didn't grow into a bully myself though I am pleased to say and always try to help others. I do wish I could save others a great deal of pain, as with some, unlike me, it doesn't stop at school but carries into the workplace too. I am one of the lucky ones and I grew up to be stronger, but, I would not recommend the course I took of defiance while refusing to hit back and "Not telling" either, hoping to shame those that would bully me into stopping, unfortunately a lot of these people have no shame. Thank you for the read Sunday, I hope you will hang around for a while......Andrew...xxxcool

Serenity this was a great poem should be hung on school walls WHY? I hear you say, just to make it a talking point. Kids love to debate and that is the only way forward, as a lot of cowards are seen for what they are in debates. BULLIES.teddybear

Thank you Redex. The lesson learned here is that schoolyard bullies grow-up to become workplace bullies as well. However, they can be dealt when you are aware of the tools to take them out. head banger
