Gifts of the beloved...
Its hard to resist the ‘grass-is-greener-on-the-other-side-of-the-hill’ syndrome,
It kind of gnaws away at you, like a crazed rodent,
Or it fills you with romantic pictures of ‘realities’ that are more phantom than ‘Blackbeard’s’ ghost,
It taunts you like some demon bent on conquest at any cost,
Or, it sings to you like some sweet siren-melody, inviting you to forbidden pleasures,
‘I’m missing out...’, you find yourself muttering to yourself...
At such times, [...yes, of course I’m tempted by the syndrome...]I find that shifting my focus on the beloved and the gifts she/he offers, a worthy yet simple sword of defence against the syndrome,
And, yes, of course the beloved has gifts,
Innumerable, in fact,
Some of my beloved’s gifts are:-
Her authenticity,
Her conscious/aware mind,
The way she throws her tantalizingly naked leg over me, nights,
Her delicious smile,
Her educated gaze,
Her cultured demeanor,
Her youthful zest for life,
The way she clutches me at the climax of ‘things’, [whatever I may mean by that..., har, har...],
The way she playfully teases me regarding my insecurities, my inadequacies, my ineptitudes, my ‘feeling-blue’ times, yes, she even teases me regarding my ‘high’ times, when I feel like I’m sliding along an invisible roller-coaster at dizzying speeds, when honey is dripping from my mouth,
Also, she’s slowly becoming more of a friend to me as the weeks and months go by[intimacy is not enough for me, I need a deep, abiding friendship...]...
I find, as I navigate the oceans of romance,
I need to stay alert to the gifts of my beloved,
I find, that although its hard to suppress the ‘roaming-male-DNA’ molecule, its possible, and the rewards are endless...
And, just a final thought, the best and rarest gifts my beloved bestows on me are:-
Her beautiful and eternal soul,
Her fathomless Being,
Her distilled essence,
Dripping with the nectar of the gods,
Enveloping me in a cocoon of wonder...

You cover so much here in this treatise. You and your lady friend obviously know one another very well. The greener pastures are certainly pushed in popular culture...I'd be happy just to find a pasture. Anyway as usual there is a lot of food for thought here. Thanks for posting in your inimitable style once again.
Your narrative is as fine as the rarest vintage wines, this superb meandering delight reminds us all how much your wonderful writing has been missed on the poetry board.
You must try and tear yourself away from your beloved a little more often in order to entertain us with your brilliant insights into the human condition.
Kindest regards
Bill
You need to get something in a book so that others can read and enjoy. I felt as if you were talking about me.
Keep on writing.
