WILLINGNESS

A word we might say or read on the page,
often passes through us undigested.
The lack of it poisons relationships,
for without it our hearts aren’t invested.
Resentments, old baggage, lingering fear;
the head and ego do battle once more.
Our unresolved issues keep us adrift.
We see the prize, but we’re miles from shore.
One day we all run out of excuses...
The fact is, we each must suffer to grow.
It’s truth and pain that brings us to our knees,
face to face with ourselves...then our soul.
For all the times we neglected by choice,
answers intended to show us the way;
might we find in silence, stillness and prayer.
a measure of strength and wisdom each day.
When anger no longer rules our emotions,
WILLINGNESS can then merge with honesty.
The language of surrender and freedom
might become one’s path to serenity.

About this poem:
A lesson for me in making amends, and being willing to do so.

I like both your poetic style and the message of this very well written narrative: Egos, resentment etc etc and a reluctance to compromise are the death knell of any relationship.
I enjoyed the read...
