The Letter

The Letter

Under the floorboards I found an envelope all yellow
Jeffery Masters it was addressed to this fellow
Now it was just over 100 years ago the letter came
My hand shaking as I read aloud his name

I opened it and upon the floor fell a lock of hair
A piece of history I handled with all care
Typed on single sheet, July 4th 1905 it was sealed
Dearest Jeffery, I sit before my typewriter naked it revealed

I'm searching the keys to put on paper just the right word
Had I invaded, reading of their love they had stirred
“I have missed you so, our meeting was to brief.
Of my body I learned, and unleashing passions your belief.

Beyond my wildest imagination you excited me!
I long so much to feel your tender kisses you see.
Now we are far apart,
I sit here naked, no longer a virgin, for you stole my heart.

I would give my self to you, open myself to you once more,
If only but for one night, our passions we may again explore.”
No signature, just “Sealed with a kiss” smudged by fingertips
Was the impression of the writer's lips

I folded it gently around that lock of her hair
And slid back into the envelope with care
I still wonder if they met again, making me feel glad
I can only hope that they had.
