SINGING AND FLYING FREE

Embedded image from another site

My heart is filled with sorrow today
For a winged one of God’s creatures flew away
Winging up to Heaven I pray
To bask in Heaven’s sun rays

I found her earthly shell sadly to say
Laying behind my garbage can today
I grieved for this poor little stray
She crawled there for warmth I’m afraid

She lay so quiet and peaceful I can say
I said a little prayer as I looked where she lay
I know she is now warm and flying in play
Singing because she is happy and free - no longer afraid

About this poem:
True story yesterday. That bad Winter Storm Harper (I think that was the name) we just got - went out to clean off my porch (roof over) and shovel and found this female finch laying behind my garbage can cuddled right next to the side of the house. I felt so bad - if I had known she was in trouble, I would have tried to help her. It reminded me of the hymn "His Eye is on the Sparrow".

I liked the way you arranged poem around sad happening. It's surprising how nature brings us up short. At least bird did not go unnoticed. thumbs up

One of the attributes that I have always admired about you Kathy is that you are a lover of truth. I might have questioned the authenticity of such a story from others, but with you I would never, regardless of your photographic evidence.

Thank you Red. I felt so bad for her as it was so cold out. Not sure if birds feel the cold or not but the chill factor temperatures this year have been frigid. Today we're suppose to have -25 degrees to -35 degrees chill factors with the wind. Also blowing snow and squalls.

Happy Chatty: I believe all of God's innocent creatures go to Heaven. I certainly hope so. I would miss them when I hopefully get there. Thanks for reading - not my best poem ever but needed to acknowledge she lived and she counted.
