I Never Hear A Thing

I've heard stories of loneliness
I've heard stories of pain
I've seen bloodshot skies through bloodshot eyes
And I've weathered a whole lot of rain

I've traveled down some windy highways
Crowded by people in fear
Where memories grow like the weeds in the park
And you water them down with a beer

But I never hear a thing
about you
I don't ever hear a thing
about you

All nestled down in a windy truck stop
Just off the interstate
Noticing how the lines on the map
Look like the lines time drew on my face

I'd like to show you the dreams I've grown
In the garden in the back of my mind
I get flowers that look just like you
Time after time after time

But I never hear a thing
about you
I don't ever hear a thing
about you

Sometimes I think that you might pass my way again
And then I think I hear your voice
But I know it's just the wind

'Cause I never hear a thing
About you, no
I don't ever hear a thing
About you

About this poem:
OK here it is, the first, the very first song that I ever wrote. It doesn't seem like it, (because of the lyrics) but I was all of 16 years old.

Prohibition

Verse I

Recalling prohibition days,
When he was just a kid.
Mom said, "Hide! There's bullets flyin!"
So that's just what they did.
The war waged on for three long days,
Fought o'er a moonshine still.
Gunshots heard through window screens,
As they hid neath the sill.

Chorus

It was the roaring twenties and,
The Tommy guns did roar.
The blood flowed with the whiskey as,
The Reaper kept the score.
Though long ago, the legend still,
Lives on forevermore,
Of the great St. Louis massacre,
Of nineteen twenty-four.

Verse II

When finally all the shooting stopped,
The kids just had a ball,
Through blood-stained streets they ran to dig.
The bullets from the wall.
No way of telling now or then,
How many fought and died.
Neath grandstands of the greyhound track,
The bodies they did hide.

Verse III

This tale is true, as told to me,
My father was that lad.
His childhood had this one bright spot,
Though much of it was sad.
Seems strange to think a shooting spree,
Could somehow bring such joy.
Excitement coursed right through the veins,
Of that scared little boy.

To Our Flag

---- IMAGE REMOVED because photobucket.com no longer allows embedded images ----

Verse I

In the good ol' U.S.A.,
Thank the stars for ev'ry day.
Where the people know they're free
To be who they want to be.
It's the country of my birth.
There's no finer place on earth.
And I love our Stars and Bars,
In peacetime, and during wars.

Chorus

May she wave on through the night!
May she always stand for right!
May she guard the ones who guard us,
Keep them safe til mornin's light.

Verse II

The defenders of our Flag,
Never stop and never sag.
Working hard both night and day,
So that we can live our way.
May not always quite agree,
With so called powers that be,
But the brave that for us fight,
Glory, keep them safe tonight.

Verse III

As their buddies they protect,
Those at home they don't neglect.
They go fight for you and me,
So our Flag flies o'er the free.
There are nations far and wide,
Wave their country's flag with pride.
That to me is more than fine,
You wave yours and I'll wave mine.

About this poem:
Blatant, unabashed patriotism. Not stylish, I know, but it's how I feel. Got nothin' against other countries, have visited a few and hope to visit a lot more, but this will always be MY country.

The end of the world ( the song )

The end of the world has come.
We are going crazy.
Why must it come like this.
I wish it wouldn’t end like this.

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

I am running searching every house
On every block
I need you by my side
As the world ends
I wish it wouldn’t end like this

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

I scream your name
But you don’t answer
I try to let you know I am here
But you didn’t answer
I wish it wouldn’t end like this

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

People are running and screaming
But I’m standing there looking for your face
I fall down on my knees
I want to be with you one last time
I wish it wouldn’t end like this

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

I need one last kiss
To hear the words I love you one last time
I want to feel you next to me
I want to hold you one more time
I wish it wouldn’t end like this

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

Then I hear you scream my name
You came to me
You rapped your arms around me
You kissed me
You say you love me
I feel you next to me
Then you say

As the world is ending
I found you
And now I can die beside you
As the world is ending
I reach for you
And now you are there

Check this out...

Chorus from the John Prine song, "Living in the Future"

"We are living in the future
I'll tell you how I know
I read it in the paper
Fifteen years ago
We're all driving rocket ships
And talking with our minds
And wearing turquoise jewelry
And standing in soup lines"

If you've never checked this talented songwriters stuff out, he's well worth the effort. Most of his stuff is available to listen on the web...

TAKE MY HAND

Free up your mind and wonder
take your hurt away
when all your head is gone
when you know you don't belong
sentimental journeys all
take my hand and we'll fly away

Lay your head on mine
share the heavy heart
its over now
if i can i'll help you anyhow
turn a frown into a smile
take my hand and we will fly away

Some may even say
to hold a truth in lies
i'll be moving on
love should sing to me a pretty song
all i hear is minor keys
take my hand and we'll fly away

On angels wings we ride
heaven surely hides
keep us from safe from harm
shelter lessons learned that hate derides
i'll let you go so long, goodbye
my only love you can, fly away.

fly away, fly fly away,
fly away fly away……... fly away……….
fly away……….....
fly away

About this poem:
The words to a song i wrote a year ago. Its one of my favourite songs written by me and i always love to play it on piano. Very simple haunting melody with no chorus or bridge but i like it that way so i left it. If anyone wants to hear the musical version with me playing piano let me know.

I Love You

I love the time we spend together
Those special moments shared.

If loving you means really caring
I've loved you cause I've cared.

On the Side of the Road (redux)

Verse I

I hitch to get to where I need.
I have no car you see.
Times are rough,
But I am tough,
Sometimes you gotta be.
I get good rides most of the time,
At others it's no go.
It's all good
Get what I should.
On the side of the road.

Chorus

On the side of the road,
On the side of the road,
You never know,
How it wiill go,
On the side of the road.

Verse II

There's money lost and money found,
A crapshoot at the best.
Take the things,
Good fortune brings,
And disregard the rest.
I've found the thing to do is just,
Sit back and watch the flow.
What goes by,
Upon the tide,
On the side of the road.

Verse III

Sometimes there are people too,
Out wanderin' around.
Just like me,
They're try'n' to see,
What's out there to be found.
Some are nice and some are mean,
You never really know.
Some are out,
Just roam'n' about,
On the side of the road.

Not That Kind of Love (redux)

Verse I

Thought we'd be together and nevermore to part.
I put aside my pride, then gave to her my heart.
Thought she was my angel, sent down from up above.
(She said) I love ya baby, but it's not that kind of love.

Chorus

What kind of love could it be?
Where she don't want to love only me?
I never thought I'd be the fool,
Home with a broken heart, wond'rin',
What kind of love could it be?

Verse II

So I found another, we dated for a while.
This girl had a lot of class, had a lot of style.
Seemed to be the perfect fit, I'd been dreamin' of.
(She said) I love ya baby, but it's not that kind of love.

Verse III

Listen to me baby and listen to me well.
Seen a lot of women, way more than I can tell.
I may seem like the hand, that fits your velvet glove,
(And I) love ya baby, but it's not that kind of love.

Final Chorus

What kind of love could it be?
I'd tell ya' girl but you'd never see.
Now you don't wanna' be the one,
Home with a broken heart, wond'rin',
What kind of love could it be?

shadow of darkness

Do you miss me through the shadow of darkness, I can see you but i'm blinded by our love, things that i do take for granted by one should always be appreciated.

Our love was strong but now that we're apart all the memories are always there, locked up inside of deep emotion i wonder what will happen to us. I've been hurt so who do i learn to no and trust, draws like a magnet to each of us deviding two worlds apart through the power and strength of love.

What direction shall i follow will it be the right or wrong there is only one past way to choose.
