YOU KNOW WHEN A LAWYER IS FYING AND IT’S WHENEVER HIS HIPS ARE GROOVING
Did you slip and fall and it’s the merchant’s fault??
Well we’re going to get you enough money to fill a vault
Did you have a relative who slipped and fell
Fear not, they’ll be represented by men going to hell
He tries in every way to get you to believe but more importantly to stay
Because he sees his bank account in everything you say
While you’re describing to a man about an injury you sustained
He sees his safety deposit box and cares not if you’re pained
Okay, so let’s say you didn’t fall but you remember something fell
Don’t you recall it came right down from the sky says the man headed for hell
Surely you recall it was noontime on the seventeenth and you were injured
And I’ll get you a bankroll no matter who says there was no pain you endured
Have you or a loved one worked in the mines
Or in a school as old as the liberty bell
Then you may have been exposed to asbestos or at least read between the lines
So the fools say“Yeah, okay, I’ll be in on the deal and we’ll both go to hell”

A MATTER OF GRAVITY
where art thou when I need thee most
ah yes, thou has become a ghost
a wishing well empty, a pond depleted
as I stand as stagnant, a man defeated
i have been overcome by demons inside
and when they request "why hast he died"
say unto them he was a man with thirst un-quenched
and tell them i died with my teeth well clenched
"clenched" question they, "but why" they wonder
"because," responds you "of the certain thunder"
"hear not thee the sound that killed him well?"
"Oh yes, now we hear why he was condemned unto Hell"
"so" sayeth thee, tell them without any doubt
there will be, due to his death, become a drought
a dryness no man nor god can create
"because," inform them, "my man was slain solely by hate"
" 'twas hatred which condemned him unto the fire,
and to all I swear, my man was no liar
he told the truth before the Temple of Love
until a thousand demonic angels appeared from above"
so let them hear the words of a man sworn unto death
and vow to them all that with each blessed breath
easiness, that evening, arrived my sweet
because 'twas with eagerness my death did I meet
thusly do I swear when you gaze around
and find not by body, to which Hell was bound
remember my face and this most memorable date
for that 'twas the eve your man died of SELF-hate

MEET THE STREET
A dude must know the street before he or she wants to live on one
I don’t mean a house or an apartment on a street… I mean live on the street
You’d better know how to fight, how to surrender and when to run
And one should also practice being orderly and oh so discreet
There’s Old Man Joe and his friend Fred who seem okay
But if you own anything at all don’t turn your back on the pair
Because this ain’t just talk since I live here from day to day
And don’t come running to the other street dwellers if you need someone to care
Ain’t no one on the street that gives a damn about you and what you need
Be it food, drink, comfort or just someone to bandage you when you’re hurt
Sh*t, dudes on the street wouldn’t ebb the flow of your blood no matter how you plead and bleed
And then there are the rich who pass by and won’t give up a buck as they treat you like dirt
So I’m giving you ample warning and the rest is all up to you
You can keep doing your thing and lay in that warm comfy bed
Because I swear on everything holy that the following statement is true
If you need to live on the streets you’d better have eyes in front and in back of your head

they say we'll come to our end one day
they say we just won't matter
they say we'll become our own prey
with thoughts as mad as a hatter
they say we'll run out of water
they say we'll run out of food
they say we'll kill or be slaughtered
they say we'll come to no good
they say civility's near an end
they say there's no use in tryin'
they say our actions only portend
civilization's weakness's underlyin'
they say we don't know what we're doin'
and perhaps it's true, we don't
seems like the whole world we're screwin'
but maybe the prediction's overblown
maybe there's another bend to turn
maybe there is another angle
maybe 'stead of like before, we'll learn
to sort our emotions to better unscramble
maybe love can actually conquer fear
maybe there's a brighter dawn to come
today's weathered is tomorrow's all clear
maybe empathy is our new rule-of-thumb

whether in deep of dark
whether brightest of noonday
there's always eyes askance
casing out the come-what-may
checking angles broadly obtuse
to meaning of some stances
and other sideways glances
seeing what they can deduce
dressed in black sleek style
with shiny silent-soled shoes
steeling their desires awhile
looking affections to peruse
undecided won't be chided
on what may happen possibly
taking what comes in stride
capers can happen plausibly
who's the thief and who's
the hapless victim can be
in love's game hard to choose
pilfered affection too pat to see
yet if i am your prize you
might then surmise that i too
a second-story man pull a coup
to steal your heart, in full view
just be aware that life ain't fair
and goods are taken every day
some want more than a share
of hearts affections to take away

for give, for giving
the whole world seems
forgiven for living
these ends to extremes
for give me mine
indiscretions that
seemed so benign
i nearly fell flat
forgive me my will
that hard hit the wall
hardened me until
i forgot to recall
for give ruled golden
those marking my way
to many beholding
indebted to repay
forgive petty tiffs
words carelessly blurted
would take back if
not mindlessly inserted
forgive for deceiving
those loved the most
close bonds bereaving
pride left to boast
forgive me my pride
that brought to the brink
in cold heart to abide
hardened armor to chink
forgiving and forgetting
letting bygones be bygones
setting aside regretting
merciful pardon undergone
for give, to live
free from our angst
amongst the living
forgive to give thanks

The armor I have been wearing has been pierced
a tidal wave of joy rode in an settled near my heart
I am torn by the feelings of compassion and empathy
and wish I could go back to having a cold blackheart
A window was opened, all these new feelings rushed in
Instead of pushing them out, I swiftly shut the door
I am still scared to death of how they make me feel
Afraid I'll find my heart in pieces naked on the floor
But I felt that sunshine as it poured into my soul
I giggled and cried, then sat in stunned disbelief
I felt a kind of happiness, joy I hadn't felt in years
Finally breaking through the darkness, I felt such relief
The light turned on, the void holding me had gone
Now everything I see holds a new kind of spark
the colors seem brighter, more vibrant, more alive
I guess my heart had been hibernating in the dark
Now the real work for my life and sobriety begins
I see now all the problems and what was truly wrong
It's time to fix all the things that had been broken
So when I am done.. I will be that much more strong

DEATH WAS THE SECRET AND DOPE WAS THE PRIZE
We had so much back then to apologize for
A thousand things, perhaps even more
There was the broken, the smashed and much of the cracked
We did a lot of damage and that’s a f**king fact
Most stood transfixed on the destruction being done
But they were just bystanders blinded by the sun
And when their eyes were no longer shut what did they see?
They saw collateral damage and people like me
As Hansel and Gretel we followed a path of tears
Because for years it’s that kind of regret that adheres
One doesn’t simply say dry your eyes and it’s over
That would be akin to a weed turning into a clover
Yes, those years were a backdrop on a primordial stage
A play written, directed, and produced by the universe and its rage
There came a time when our eyes betrayed who and what we’d all become
And suddenly a lot of people decided to walk around doped up and numb
Then some prestidigitator president and his specious spouse opened her big mouth
When they realized the problem had spread from east to west and north to south
Give the kids a slogan about “just saying no” and they’ll follow all the rules
See, that’s what happens when you hand this country over to fools
We’d held demonstrations about racism and were maddened by war
And with battle comes death while we were all keeping score
Yes, we had a lot of things back then to apologize for
But I’m telling you, your corrupt government has a lot more

I MUST REMEMBER TO FORGET
I remember when you didn’t remember the time nor the place
I recall how you didn’t recall our first kiss and how it made your heart race
I know you’ve forgotten what you swore you’d never forget
And I know you didn’t know that I’ve loved you since the moment we first met
Simply to help your memory function well and be precise
You opined that if this is what forever is like you wanted a slice
Your words spoke softly of romance as well did your heart
And I’m certain you don’t recall promising to give me your all from the start
You can’t envision the first time I came into your vision
Or swearing to every god there is we will never suffer division
You swore we’d be one and never be done making each other’s heart race
Yet I remember our firsts of everything especially our first emphatic and embrionic embrace
You don’t understand that I still don’t understand why you had to go
I suppose to you our love became irrelevant and obsolete
that’s all I know
It’s sorrowful how fast a first can so easily become a last
And now years later all we are is part of each other’s past
