gsmonks: You see the ultrasound and recoil in horror. Your baby is hideously deformed, will live a life of unending pain, is possibly brain-damaged as well.
The Decision: do you mercifully abort it, or do you let it live and suffer?
No matter my answer I'm sure someone will find fault with it so I'll reframe from answering.

If my mate wants to keep the child, we will, with love and devotion. Will I have a child that suffers, HELL NO!

Why do you even bother to ask when you so obviously are framing the question to allow only one answer the respondent can give without looking bad?

I will choose to look bad than to allow anyone else to make a decision for me and MY family!
Have you seen a pic of a fetus before term on an ultrasound? Ugly looking little things until mid-second trimester.
Would any physician base their findings on a child's deformity without performing a test? Amniocenteses test being one of the most common and even then, with risk to fetus and mother.
Neither a technician nor a doctor will make a diagnosis of deformity or abnormality based off of a sonogram/ultrasound nor will they use scare tactics to a mother or her partner.
Your question/poll is specious and designed to antagonize women.

Also, by using the words "...recoil in horror. Your baby is hideously deformed..." it puts it in the realm of archaic witchery, bedevilment and general prejudice regarding disability.
To see the scan image of the child growing inside of you is just plain awesome. The fear that you are about to find out if everything is healthy with your child is acute. The relief at being told that you baby is alive and well...there are no words to describe it.
If I were told, or if I saw that there was something seriously amiss, I wouldn't recoil from my own child that I may lose. I'd want to hold on to him, or her. I'd want to nuture him, or her like I could make everything better.
There are times when parents have to make awful decisions in the best interests of their child, whether they are unborn, or have been born.
I doubt recoiling in horror is an accurate description without depression being an issue.

I can't believe you even asked such a question,get a life...
NAKEDMUDPEOPLE: YOUR BABY! WFT? Talk about turning this against women?
Slowly, slowly, a little faster than rain and wind eroding the side of a mountain, so man erodes and undermines a woman, women and their rights to be treated with dignity, respect and compassion in regards to their body, their thoughts and their reproductive rights.

Deep breaths.......thanks for reminding me we are dealing with man.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and deem you as being brave for raising this topic .... ..... and I'm sure you will learn to use the word 'recoil' when only referring to guns in the future ! But I would be totally shocked also to find out such tragic news.
Assuming that ultrasound or whatever the test required , was presented to me by professional, experienced doctors I would accept their diagnosis and elect to terminate. I would consider it inhumane not to with the constant pain element in particular.

I don't see where this is specifically addressed to women only.

Thankfully I was raised around men that would have not put up with any woman being mistreated. All of them treat me with as much respect as they would a man. Even cooler they always expected as much from me as they did from a man.

Let it live and suffer, but in the process prove to all that you are the best parent in the world ......

Might have been better if you had listed a few more options in your poll, for instance yes, no, not sure, not until I did everything in my power to get a confirmed diagnosis....However, I am going with RD on this and giving you the benefit of the doubt....and it is an interesting topic...
Medical science/advancement is a good thing...to be able to determine the things you describe in your OP is a positive, a huge positive....in a case like the one you described it could even be considered a blessing...I would see a specialist and get as much confirmation/information as possible in the first trimester....I would do this immediately, and if my baby was abnormal to the degree you speak of, I would abort without hesitation.....

agreed...... Gotta go, but would like to have hung around to hear someone's logic towards the decision to allow such a life to exist.....

You obviously know very little about being a parent. No mother would ever recoil in 'horror' at seing their unborn child's scan, no matter what the shape looks like. BEsides which, all babies are in a foetal position in the womb so even major deformities would not be clear. And the use of the word 'hideous' simply reveals your own views. I reiterate, no mother or father, for that matter, would perceive their unborn in that way. BTW, when is the last time you viewed an image of 'deformed' unborn child? Just asking.

I would feel guilty if I had to terminate the life of a deformed child but at the same time, my belief is that it would be selfish to let this child suffer for the rest of it's life in order to safe myself from guilt.

I would leave it on my sister's doorstep and blame my cousins.
