sagap0: A little extra weight doesn't make a difference. Enough extra weight to make a person significantly unhealthy will also make a person unattractive.

In fact, I wish there were a way to block profiles of fat people, so I don't even have to see them on this site.

Alright! Give me the X Ill put it right there on my face , so you can overcome your "allergic reaction to fat people" , like myself :)

Well don't look at mine then!! Are you sure you have a wide enough X ?

Just as a reality check:

In Australia, 63 percent of men and 48 percent of women are overweight or obese, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The research was published in the journal Nature Medicine.

I assume that American and British stats are similar

I wonder where you stand on other 'types' of people.....then again...I don't care to know

You weren't just slim 1 day and woke up the next to be morbidly obese. Its been a progression of 10-20 years of lies and laziness.

Exercise is hard work, goals are hard work, for some people. Leaving the house to be wined and dined is to much like hard work?? how boring. I am judging more than your physical attractiveness when i see a fatty photo.

There are people in the world with your "medical condition" who run marathons because they dont let it dictate or ruin their life.

A Few Extra Pounds Won't Kill You—Really

In a finding that could undermine many New Year's resolutions, a new government study shows that people who are overweight are less likely to die in any given period than people of normal weight. Even those who are moderately obese don't have a higher-than-normal risk of dying.

Being substantially obese, based on measure called body mass index, or BMI, of 35 and higher, does raise the risk of death by 29%, researchers found.

But people with a BMI of 25 to 30—who are considered overweight and make up more than 30% of the U.S. population—have a 6% lower risk of death than people whose BMI is in the normal range of 18.5 to 25, according to the study, being published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
People who had a BMI of 30 to 35—considered the first stage of obesity—had a 5% lower risk of dying, but those figures weren't considered statistically significant.
Still, health experts said that Americans shouldn't treat the new study as a license to eat more.

I AM OVERWEIGHT.......I posted earlier in the thread.

You have NO idea about my medical condition/s. One specialist said he could not believe I was actually in his office and having a conversation as I should be a total invalid!

If you do not stand in MY shoes don't make assumptions about my weight! It is people like yourself that add to the already difficult time of those with illnesses because of your judgement.

Well, it kind of taps into people's vulnerabilities, doesn't it?

I suspect that's deliberate and a form of bullying, so maybe we need to be clear about what we're dealing with here.

For example, those who advocate that anyone, like myself, who falls into the obesity, or pre-obesity categories according to their BMI, or HWP should not have allowed themselves to for health reasons, or for attractiveness' sake, don't seem to be too worried about the health risks of bullying people (even unwell people), or their own personal attractiveness.

I suggest the cognitions behind the behaviour are actually to do with wanting control over other people's bodies. That makes me curious as to why they should want to do that.

It's ignorance what makes them/us disrespectful most of times.

You might be right on "Why u care" ...personally It doesn't stress me out , but I think that it's only natural when you "feel" somewhat "attacked" to use the space you have to make your point. It's only natural as a human being.

Specially me that have some issues to solve when it comes to anger management . LOL

I'm a little confused Jac. Do I understand that you are saying people who bully overweight people do it because they want to control the overweight person?

That doesn't seem logical to me....as Spock would say. I think, on average, an adult who is obese is bullied by someone they don't even know, i.e. in a theme park; at a movie theatre. They make a snide comment for the person to hear and never see them again so it would be difficult to control them.

Children who are obese and are bullied in school see the bully everyday but I don't see how the bullier child can control another child by making fun of them.

I have no doubt that obese children, who are bullied, sometimes resort to suicide and I guess that is one way the bullier did control the obese child.

I understand about the feeling of being attacked and maybe bulled. There are times myself that I've felt like being able to reach through my montior and punch the person(s) out.

Then after I have a chance to cool down some I just tell myself.

Sometimes they're most likely saying something to just wind people up.

They're ignorant and know nothing about me.

I also wonder if they'd be so brave to say that to my face in person.

Some people are just plain mean and nasty.

Some people are just to stupid to realize that there's another human being at the other end.

More likely... nope. Wouldn't be so brave and that's the reason people like that use this kind of opportunities to insult and say the first word they can think of.

I guess some people just never heard of the word 'tact'.

I had a Aunt who had a medical issue which caused her to gain alot of weight. She was even under a doctors care as far as dieting.she followed that diet to a T but couldn't lose the extra weight.

She had to end up going to have surgery which she found out was a risk but had it anyway. She had high blood pressure as well.

After that surgery she began losing weight.

Okay...I have had time to sit and think on this. You seem to see 'medical conditions' as being used as an excuse.

I wonder if you would also expect a person who is in a wheelchair to 'get up and run marathons' because he/she is too lazy?

Actually, prior posters are correct. There is no point exchanging messages on here with some-one who is judgemental out of ignorance and blessed with reasonable health. Maybe, unfortunately, you may find yourself in a position for which you judge others.
