We all have our preferences. I'm not into skinny men. dunno

Yes, I would date a person I would consider cuddly smitten, or for everyone who is banging on about measurements someone who's BMI is above the "normal range". I know guys who are and who are fit and healthy.

BTW, overweight is a BMI of 25-30, over 30 is obese and the OP was only asking about overweight. wink

jac379: Well, it kind of taps into people's vulnerabilities, doesn't it?

I suspect that's deliberate and a form of bullying, so maybe we need to be clear about what we're dealing with here.

For example, those who advocate that anyone, like myself, who falls into the obesity, or pre-obesity categories according to their BMI, or HWP should not have allowed themselves to for health reasons, or for attractiveness' sake, don't seem to be too worried about the health risks of bullying people (even unwell people), or their own personal attractiveness.

I suggest the cognitions behind the behaviour are actually to do with wanting control over other people's bodies. That makes me curious as to why they should want to do that.

I suggest to you that there are concerned individuals who will tell you that for health reasons as well as for attractiveness’ sake to get moving, for example, health clubs, personal trainers or doctors. (male & female) The cognitions behind such behavior has nothing to do with bullying or control over other peoples bodies but rather to push the individual to take control of their own body. I’m curious as to why your perceptions come from such a negative, dark state of mind.

Yep I do agree I need to loose a few pounds and I fully entend on applying myself to doing it because I know will feel heaps better for it.

Having said that for some folks it is very hard to apply themselves and isn't all that easy for them especially if they have been overwieght most of their lives. I don't have an answer for them except I do hope for the best to those people struggling with severe weight issues sad flower hug comfort

Actually I agree with you only so far as young people are concerned.

I've seen older people lose weight and the skin sags and they look horrible with all that lose skin hanging off them, esp. around the neck.

If it's necessary for health reasons, fine, but I'd rather be a little fatter when I'm old than look like a deflated balloon or a turkey.

That's right Cincy. I'm in the process of losing a lot of weight. When I get to my goal weight there will be excess skin that won't be very pretty. However, due to my age I cannot go through the surgery to remove the skin over my entire body. It would be very dangerous for me. Also, removing the skin is considered plastic surgery and Medicare will not pay for that.

Who gives a crap about excess skin. We see it on the Biggest Loser when they lose a ton of weight and then they come back for the Finale and all that skin is gone. Do you think the show paid for the surgery to remove the skin? I doubt it but the network wants the contestants in the Finale to look good in their new tight fitting clothes so maybe they do pay for it.

Maybe they do GT cause there's usually only one or two contestants who lose so much weight that it produces hanging skin. Oh to be so lucky to be on the show. Those contestants are going to a progressive gym for 3 or 4 months free in California, get free food, free lodging, free health checkup and then free surgery to remove skin and the biggest free of all is the $250,000.00 check.wow

My guys mother is on medicare and there's certain meds etc that it won't cover.

The funny thing is those kind of shows neglect to tell the people watchers just how long it actually takes for the perons losing the weight. It's also all about the ratings.

Getting on a show like that would be such a great motivator for someone who cant manage to lose the weight alone.

The Biggest Loser is filmed over the summer so it's about 4 months of extensive diet and exercise. It is about ratings but the weight loss is actual. I give the contestants credit for working so hard at it.

I started to watch the new season last night. Actually I taped it and watched it today. This time they have adults and three children. They don't scream at the children or put them on a scale. It's just a learning process how to eat healthy and exercise and the kids like it.

I would love to do it but I have two bad knees....their supposed to be good knees laugh after knee replacements but that didn't go to well. So, I wouldn't be able to do the exercise that they force on people.

In addition, once Jillian started screaming at me to go faster I'd use some sweet language right in her face to shut the F up. Yeah, I swear laugh

Body shaming is not cool, period.

A healthy mind and body is optimal, no argument. However, implying that a personal is lazy, unhygenic, and whatever other adjectives that have been bandied about in this thread is ludicrous. I smell pretty damned good and have managed to learn how to use a bar of soap.

Smoking, alcohol, drugs, shopping, gambling...there is so much self-medicating going on in today's world. We live in a stressful modern world. Bulimia, anorexia, depression, little girls starving themselves because they hear and see what has been said in this thread.

I am not going to question statistics and also agree that we all have our own preferences on what attracts us. My point is, has been, that body shaming is not humorous, not acceptable, and one should clean one's own house before telling others "Simply take control of your life".

Some of us do have that power to take control of some issues in our lives, but other issues are a bit more tricky. You and I have no idea what that other's person story is, what issues he/she is battling whether it be physical, emotional, or due to the effects of meds/chemo/thyroid/lupus/insert so many other causes of weight gain.

Please, just stop body shaming.

I am out of this thread now.

yes this is unacceptable! those who make fun of the weight of another need to ask what they can do to improve themselves - so you smoke? drink? take drugs? smoke pot? speed on the hywy? have temper management issues? Have a criminal or arrest record? ba grades in school? Get control of your life all of those things are unacceptableprofessor

Yes, I know. It's a natural thing for the skin to sag. That's my whole point. That is why I think it's better to be a little fatter because it looks better.

I'm not bashing anybody here. I'm just saying it like it is. I'm not a spring chicken myself, not am I perfect - far from it. Everybody goes on to talk about how great it is to be thin and sure, I can see the point, but too thin isn't good either and it isn't necessarily attractive when one gets older.

The fact remains that there are individuals who are overweight/obese simply because they are lazy. Personally, being involved and in tune with the industry for a number of years, one such as myself has had the opportunity to see and experience other’s laziness when it come to physical excersise. For you to suggest the condition is ludicrous I think is denying the fact that it does indeed exist.

For your information, I do in fact now have a medical issue that will not allow for workouts. And, I wouldn’t tell someone how to live their own life. God knows I have challenges of my own to contend with.
.
Finally, the question posed was would I date someone overweight. I answered that question in an earlier post from a man’s point of view. Had I been a woman, within the context of the question, I’m pretty sure I’d have answered it the same way. I completely stand by my earlier post and it wasn’t posted to shame or bash but only to give my honest assessement period….

As for the rest of your commentary, I agree with it. High five.
Jan 9, 2013 8:06 AM CST Would you date an overweight person?
I myself have personally seen lazy behavior related to smoking and drug use, even driving causing accidents because some are so lazy that they cannot wait till they're home to talk on the phone or they are too lazy to drive alert......overweight people may not like to work out but I also have seen plenty put in a full day of work day after day and that's not lazy. I think it is more accurate to say that they do not like to work out rather than they are as people , lazy

as long as a person can get up and walk they can exercize tho & I highly recommend it even it only burns a few calories - there are many other health benefits too
