It was a brutal unjust system that dehumanised the oppressed and oppressors alike. Some of us, black and white, fought to bring an end to it.
I, and many others, were teargassed, beaten, shot and detained....but we stayed and saw it through.
South Africa IS one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and I have travelled extensively....it has its problems but its people are courageous, strong and forgiving.

Not exactly welcoming to non nationals are they? who are mostly from North Africa or Eastern Europe...and actually the laws are enacted from Pretoria....Govt bureaucracy runs from there - CT house our parliament, where legislation is passed.....Bloemfontein is the Judicial capital...quite complex as others here have explained....All I can say is go visit...explore..see the REAL SA....it's diversity, beauty,Ubuntu spirit....and the crime grime and poverty - notice that most people there are happy with life(always singing)and their place in the world - 'N BOER MAAK 'N PLAN -We are a tough bunch...but it's Africa not pampered Europe... then you are entitled to a fair say in your belief and opinion - until then get back on the ouzo....

Funigolo.....that's a universal 'national' language used in mines, farms, factories ect...a mixture of all the languages so all are 'singing off the same hymn sheet'

South Africans are Africans irrespective of their colour. And we have much to be proud of - apart from the braai, biltong and rugby already mentioned we also have the most progressive Constitution in the world in which a Bill of Rights guarantees everyone extensive human rights. Our judicial system was recently rated in the top 20 in the world (WTI Survey), our banking institutions and laws is ranked no. 1 in the world. We are trying to move forward from our past.

Chris I'm a white Australian, does that mean I should vacate the country so that he Aboriginals can have it back? Where would I go? Maybe since I have Irish ancestory I could move back there? Somehow I don't think they'd have Me.
