Bogart_1960: guess I still wear same things as I did at 25 - suits mostly during the week, jeans weekend.
no idea what is "dress appropriate ".
Imagine a middle aged man with 'middle aged spread' in skinny jeans! I think that's what it's meant to mean... Question is who decides what is appropriate and according to what criteria?

that´s the point "who decides what is appropriate and according to what criteria"
Selenite: Somebody who still needs to work on their wild creative self ? may be .....
why? who decides that? we can not be all artists neither all wackos. In fact the majority of people are just "pretty average". and not into style. copycats, as the fashions industry dictates what is hot onr not.
For me I always use the analogy of fashion statement with witty. . if a conversation was based of what people had to think of right on the spot, they'd all be mostly of the time normal, boring, and straightforward. It is the same with our fashion style- we are just boring.

but that+s life for most of us, and I love it
I was meaning people who had connected with their creative and wilder self were less likely to care about what other people wear ...
Some people don't do fashion but have a natural sense of style or elegance. It's not just what they wear it's 'them' wearing it ....
Bogart_1960: It is an interesting article, and I believe it does tell some thruth about men in society. Men and women don't differ that much. nurture makes is different; nature not that much.
Regarding your comment, I see that you are using the "other side is as bad as well".
We have to learn to tackle each subject without comparing who has a bigger problem - we both have; we must learn . either empirically or by "acquiring " (reading/discussing) that so far, even with all the technological evolution, we still primitive in our behavior regarding emotions and how to deal with hem.
Happy holidays !
I didn't think I was 'using' anything to make an argument. I was simply pointing out that society is 'setting up' both men and women to misunderstand one another because both are playing roles instead of being transparent about who they are and what they would like. I wasn't thinking of is as a competition od whi has it worse but rather a starting point for conversation where both men and women can know what the other is experiencing in this society.
Possibly the technical evolution makes it easier to hide and not process and deal wirh our emotions!
