Indyfella: I think arrogance can be an excuse. Some weaker nations don't like stronger nations. Simple but accurate, I think.
I would agree about being strong armed, but I have seen cases with my own eyes where Civilian Americans treated the customer service people like rats. These Americans may even be like tis in the states, but there is no reason to treat other human-beings like that. This is often why we get these reputations.

If you think back to your high school reading, you probably remember "The Ugly American," and how much of our bad reputation stems for the IDIOT diplomats our federal government appointed to go into various countries with not one shred of effort to understand their culture. They were rude and arrogant and we rightly deserve the blame.
Then there are the wealthy who ventured over thinking they were entitled to treat everyone without respect.
But truly...in everyday America...how many people do you know who are like this? Most Americans I know arent' the least bit arrogant when it comes to our thoughts of other countries. Generally, we would all love to travel and explore different cultures but we are so separated geographically most can't afford such luxuries...
WhatUwish4: Oh! And another thing. Obama has a long history of throwing people under the bus when they threaten to tarnish his image. When he was in Europe and made his little speach about how Americans are arrogant regarding it's attitude toward Europe???? It was the ultimate betrayal. He threw all of us under a bus.
To the best of my knowledge, the only Americans who have ever been arrogant toward other countries is the Federal Government. American's, the individuals, don't feel that way at all.
I mean like...........
Obama did not tell like All amircans were arrogant or any thing like that Wish4! I lstend to his fabulous speech and he actually told like Americans looked arrogant in past and that created dividence amoung America and the rest of th world and that is the truth and nothing than truth as a matter of very fact!
He was pointing to the Bush gevernment and he was so right about that! Have you not noticed any thing during the last eight years?
Were you pleased about the sad fact that your countrymen all over the world were targeted unfairly because of morons on power in America and not because of being bad them selves what so ever?
'really........ you were in a Cocoon or some thing ?
All time oh my god Every thing done by americans are just FABULOUS and we are the nation of god and so on is not really good you see?
All of us, all nations making mistakes and Obama is just showing humanity by admitting some mistakes done by the former regim.......... and be sure there is a huge amount of Crimes agaisnt whole humanity done by the former regim of you can not just close ur eyes to that and bleving nothing bad happened and people are just whinning as McCain and Palin claimed in the middle of their campain!

I agree!... But (isn't there always a but) I have seen it in action.... it aint pretty, so I can understand their thinking. I have heard Americans in Paris say "We saved your butts in WWII"... well if it wasn't for the French, we would have never become a country. Their blockades kept the British from supplying and re-enforcing their troops. Then there is Japan. Why did they attack Pearl Harbor? They were working hard to modernize and become like the US, then we cut off their oil supply. We need to understand their history too.

America's public image was tarnished in the eyes of the world LONG before the Bush administration came to be, Dude. Our GOVERNMENT WAS ARROGANT sending hot shot diplomats into other countries who never even bothered to learn even the basic things about their cultures.
We're having a little NON-Partisan discussion Dude. Why does everything have to come back to Bush with you. Can't you understand that the world's problems didn't happen in eight years??? Can't you see that we all share in the blame?????
Or do you have your head so far up Obama's butt that you can only see the myth?
zee1ander: Personally, I would have thought the Navy would have performed a controlled sinking of the lifeboat with SEALs below to pull the captain out when the boat submerged and leaving the pirates to go down with their boat.

Personally, I would have thought Obama would have decended from the clouds (as in the rapture)....and take the captain away.

Also, ..... join the military, see the world.... 18 countries and counting... going back to most as a civilian.

Damn, I'm liking being on this side of the aisle.

I think that's also valid...but I think most of it stems from being on the defense. We all have heard the Dudes of the world and their obvious hatred of Americans (be it well deserved or not).. I don't think many people know how to handle it. And I also think there is a great deal of ignorance on both sides, due largely to media misrepresentation.

Well, political war games are conducted from all sides. It's certainly not just America who provokes. But again... who is it that puts in the blockades? Who cuts off the supply? The federal government....And we really want Obama to make it bigger?????

I wonder how long it will be until Obama throws Europe under the bus...

This I will agree 100%.... so enjoy it.... my liberal stance won't let that happen again.

I've got enough enemies on here, so I won't say it...but I think it's much simpler than that...
