I've often wondered what people mean when they talk about "the rich" or wanting a "rich" man or woman. What's "rich" to you?
With these numbers, I mean total value of all assets. (If a person sold everything they own, paid all debt and had x amount left in cash).
I have a gut feeling that our respective ideas of "rich" varies a great deal and I just want to see whether what I'm thinking is true or not. Thanks guys.

I know several wealthy people, one of which is a billionare...and they don't think of their wealth as i would percieve a million added to my bank account.
To give you an idea of their wealth, imagine your budget to waste at a casino after dinner....and i'm told her brother thought nothing of wasting a million pounds on roulette after his dinner before going off to do something else!!!

If you have enough to pay on your own for a lets say 4 months stay at a hospital and then to have some money left to survive, you could think of your self as rich.
This isn't about who's got what in the bank or whether anyone values money or not.
On TV, in the news, in the mags, there are the "rich and famous," the "rich and infamous"; then we have the "rich districts" where "rich parents" send their kids to top ranked schools and all that. I was just curious to see what you think is "rich".
In western society, it's all about money. No need to really beat around the bush, imo. Even if you're not all about money, then there's always someone who's after what you have and even what you don't have (get you to go into debt to buy a,b,c). That's cannibalism.. oops.. sorry capitalism.

I have more than several of the numbers and far less than others in your poll. I thought I was rich a few years ago, then the stock market adjusted my attitude and net worth! Now I consider myself just well off. Hell I am comfortable where I am at. Mostly it is a state of mind and how important money and things are to you. I have never worried about material 'things'. I was very poor once and I was richer than I am now. I was happy in both cases. I sleep well at night!

Being surrounded by persons who really love you...That's the measure of all riches, truly

Good response. Good man. All you need is a good woman to help you enjoy your 'comfortable' life.
Grandepensees: Ahhhh, okay... Well... I'd say over 200,000$ a year is well off, WELL off, so it's righ to me
Just a thought to add on your comment. That amount would make you quite well off in Mississippi and one of the most poor in Beverly Hills California. So sometimes the amounts are still relative to location, lifestyle, and our attitudes.

Well, yes... Travolta is a bum compared to an Emir in Saudi Arabia, yes
