If I want national news I go to the internet or TV, but if I want to read about my hometown news I read the newspaper. There are still sections of the newspaper that other media doesn't cover.

well said. I'm the same way. for national news I log onto AOL. com. But for the local community I prefer the local newspaper. It does have more than the online news. It also has coupons which in this economy I have become a frequent coupon clipper. I also save the newspaper to later use as gift wrap. Comics are always a hit. My nephew likes the classifieds with the truck ads, my neice likes the sales flyers with the shoes and jewelry. I just to be mean I wrap the parents in the Obits.
Since moving to Spain I keep up to date with the UK news in particular by reading the online newspapers. I also like to read other foreign newspapers online as I keep in touch with many of my students, and we often share our thoughts about current affairs in their countries.
However, there is something special about curling up in bed or on the sofa, toast and coffee on hand, and leafing through the Sunday newspapers which definitely beats scrolling up and down the online papers hands down.
Similarly, reading a book is so much more enjoyable if it is held in hand.
I could definitely live without newspapers .. the local ones that get dumped in my driveway (usually in a puddle ) go straight into the trash. If I want up-to-the-minute news, I go to the internet. I also have a "no junk mail" sticker on my mailbox as I dont need to be bombarded with brochures and unwanted advertising
jeepers: There's just something about a newspaper.
I agree. Gathering it in the brisk morning air, hopefully when the sun is just coming up, with a nice hot cup of coffee in your hands. Just something about it!!
lion131: we have tv,internet, radio etc,to read, hear and see the news, sports results, etc,so what do you think?
it is but the problem is the internet has made everyone think they are a journalist or a great writer. It's ridiculous. Bloggers are now quoted as "news" and even news networks are biased. It's hard to get the truth. Newspapers on a weekend morning is pretty cool
We have several free Newspapers here, they are entirely paid for by Advertising. So it seems newspapers still have a place here. Let alone all the Local Papers here, and there is a lot of them. Circulation might not what it used to be,but they're still alive and kicking!
