How can you trust somebody that lied to you? 
Trust is the basis of a relationship.
Yeah, sure people can change. Question is, do they want to? And how long are you willing to wait for that change? A week? A month? A year?
If it is/was a one time occurrence, you may consider forgiveness. At the second time, I would start considering consequences. And at the third time best show him where the door is....
Life is too short to be wasted on liars.

I don't think a persons moral outlook on life ever changes much. If you think its okay to lie to people to get what you want, or get out of trouble, I think you always will.
I think one of the problems with serials liars is that IMO they become so adept at it, they never get caught out. It becomes effortless for them & eventually second nature. Sad really. I've told lies and always feel sick about it afterwards, not because I did any major damage, but because it just wasn't the right thing to do. I don't know how serial liars sleep at night; it must be exhausting trying to sort the fact from fiction.

Depends on what they were lying about. Sometimes, people lie to save people from being emotionally scarred.

Someone once told me you know where you are with a gambler, with an adulterer, a thief, an alcoholic, etc etc but you will NEVER know where you are with a liar.....
Strangely enough, the person that told me that was my ex-mother-in-law. As much as she loved him, she knew her son was a chip-off-the-old-block. She was right!!

I think though, your own statement answered it. I've been lied to then lied about being lied to.
So many women will listen to a guys BS over and over and the lies just pile up but the women keeps believing them. Then when the train wreck finally occurs, they are confused.
If a guy lies, and you accept it, he will always lie.
