I started smoking when I was 22, loved every minute of it and quit 10 years ago when I realised I wasn't enjoying it anymore.
An acupuncture session and drinking several litres of water a day for the first 72 hours and I was fine, from 3 packs a day to none. The first three days were unmitigated hell, mind you!
Want to know the sad thing....I got my father to quit when I was 14 years old.
I didn't start until I joined the Navy. If you didn't smoke or drink coffee they felt you didn't need a break, so I learned to do both. I was good at not smoking in port until I was 22 then I just smoked all the time.
This year I did quit for 4 months, then for the same reason I quit, I started again!
Last year while I was in Ireland, I rented a bicycle in the Aran Islands as a way to get around. Could not do it. Ended up carrying the bike (with my gear on it) up the hills (they felt like mountains). So I was determined to quit.
When I went back this April, I met up with my Irish friends and they all smoked so you can guess what happened.... When I got back to the states I was still trying to quit smoking only 4 a day....that lasted about 2 weeks, then back to normal.
Smoked since I was in high school, regretfully. It's becoming more and more difficult to smoke in our area without feeling like a lepper.
Since the state raised ciggy taxes 60 cents a pack to fund childrens' insurance, I don't think the government wants us to quit otherwise children will go without insurance.
No way. It's quite a turnoff to kiss an ashtray and have your house and clothes all smell like one. I understand it's an addiction but I try and keep my distance. Unless of course she's just too cute to resist then bring on the ashtrays
I smoke, but I really should quit. I have several times and then end up getting overstressed and picking them back up again.
Longest I have quit was for 2 years.
The best thing that worked for me was Chantix. I had no urge to smoke. They recommend you smoke the first week on it until it gets in your system. Within two days I didn't even want to smoke.
Right after I finished the Chantix though, my bipolar ex moved out on me during the day while I was at work. Sooooooooo, when I sat there in tears, figuring out if I could afford to keep our apartment and pay bills on my salary....I ended up taking a break and walking up to the gas station for a pack of cigarettes. Haven't quit since. Probably get some more Chantix after the new year as it's pretty pricy.
Those who love to smoke....raise your hand and cough!
To all who smoke.....please stop for your sake.
My father died coughing and spitting blood, sitting up and trying to sleep sitting up in order to breath. He was too hot one second and chilled to the bone a few seconds later. In his own words, "This is one hell of a way for a man to die." His death also left my mother with major bills and a terror of what was to become of her. She lost nothing and the bills are now paid. She has her life back. It was my duty as a son to see it was so.
Please stop! Rule and not be ruled....it is your life. I know it will be hard. I must loose weight before I start having problems too.
Hi Indy, Tried it,made me spacey and grouchy for a week.Did go from 40 to 2 cigarettes in 5 days.Made my gums begin to recede back from my teeth till it drove me crazy.Good luck.Hope it works for you.
Chantix worked great for me. Only side effect I had was really weird dreams, but thats common because unless you're talented you don't smoke when you're asleep, so it flips your body out a bit.
No problems with wanting to smoke. No problems with my gums. I wasn't spacey.
They can also give you Wellbutrin on top of Chantix. I did that the first couple days when I finished smoking. Just because I'm really moody when I first start quitting.
Its expensive. I paid $114 for it, but I thought it was worth it and will try it again in a few months when I'm ready to quit again.
I've done the patch. I've done the gum. I've done hypnosis. I've gone cold turkey (never do that again...Way too moody when going through withdrawls). Chantix was the only one that really helped me...
