mackie79: the men are the ones who but pressure on women, if u dont have a model figure and nice face they dont want to know about u, so what happens, they go for the models, and the models are the ones who put the pressure on men, coz the same they want models, the models, dont want less!!!
Well...I suppose if you buy into all that crap....I dont
Nikitty20: no!! most of that pressure is on women. men have pressure about size thats why they post all those "does size matter?" polls lol
I agree.. The media is to blame for us women having the pressure of trying to look eternally youthful, beautiful, sucessful, mean while they have programs with overweight guys married to supermodel wives. Its kind of like trying to brainwash us women into settling for way less than what men expect us to be.

Orla2010: People always talk about the subject in relation to women ... but I'd just like to throw the question out there in relation to men.
I just had a penile enlargement surgery. I feel the pressure of having that impressive meat package bulge through my jeans. I know women look there first, and then go from there
On the serious side, I don't think there is really any pressure for men to look good (like model good or muscular/lean good) as opposed to the gargantuan pressure that is put on women. Women are not into looks in the same way as men are---according to many studies and my own observations.

I think if a man has a little self respect then there's nothing to worry about. You know, brush the teeth every couple of days at least and comb the hair after work and all is good.

Can't speak for all women of course, but I know this one appreciates a man who looks after himself and does the best he can with what he's got ... it's about self-respect to me, and if someone goes around looking sloppy you've gotta wonder if that's their attitude to life in general
Grooming and a little effort can make an ordinary man/person look like a million bucks if you ask me
Sep 6, 2010 4:30 PM CST Is there too much pressure on men too look good these days?

serene56: Don't see why people, male OR female, would need pressure on them to want to look good
Looking after yourself and being well-groomed makes you feel good and gives you more confidence when you go out in the world.
Sloppy ain't pretty
I was just signing in to say the same thing serene.
Of course people can't do anything about their height, and most of us can't change things we don't like about ourselves, but that aside, what's wrong with trying to present ourselves in the best light? I'd expect a date to turn up looking clean and presentable, even if he doesn't have money for 'expensive' or 'fashionable' clothes. (A lot of my clothes are charity shop finds). Hair groomed etc.
I don't have any problem with the 'work' a man does, as long as he knows how to use a shower and a bar of soap afterwards.
And surely we all know by now that we should eat well and watch our weight.

Well of course, looking sloppy is a major turnoff and a very bad first impression.
I'm sorry, I thought this was about physical looks, and how men and women differ in that respect.
I agree, looking sloppy can say a lot about a person.
Hell yeah!! Women expect you to clean yourself! Have your hair somewhat organized, and not have tattoos of gentiles on your face!! How can men possibly live up to those standards?
I spent a lot of years as a professional photographer and, after dealing with thousands of clients, I generally found women think they look worse they actually do and men think they look better then they actually do. Not always the case, but a general observation.

That's funny! And I can well believe it!
When I look my best and I have really made an effort I would give myself 6 out of 10 ... maybe 6.5 at a push ... normally I would give myself 5 .... but with guys if you ask them to score themselves out ot 10 they will always go for 7,8 and 9 !!!!

Why would anyone rate themselves in the first place? I'm quite happy with me, the way I am.
