leigh2154: When people say China owns the US, IMO, they are wrong...US owes China 1.4 Trillion dollars, followed by Japan who owes 885 Billion dollars.....Total amount of foreign owed debt as of January 2011 is 4.45 trillion or 47%...While China is the largest "debt" holder, it is a stretch to say they own the US...Also, it is highly improbably China would ever start "dumping" it's vast holdings of US Treasury Securities.....think trade deficit......
Are you aware of how vast a sum 1.4 TRILLION is?? Wrap your head around that for a moment.
"Chinaphobia has become a big political propaganda talking point. The reality is that China's trade with the US is beneficial and the CBO could find no evidence that we'd be better off taking a harsher stand with China and, in fact, would likely be worse off."
Yawell, its never a good idea to spit in the bank presidents eye
TrueBlue1986: It needs more land that is for sure. A worry for Russia one day, perhaps.
On the point of ageing populations, have you seen what ours is? And is expected to be? Also, it is customary in China for the young to live and care for their elderley, here the answer is the nursing home, which ultimately creates a massive burden upon welfare state.
I know Blue...about the custom of the Chinese caring for their elderly...it is called the 1 - 2 - 4 household and is what I am referring to when I talk about the ratios of workers to pensioners..It doesn't matter where you care for the elderly, the financial burden still exists....
Have I seen what our aging population is? Yes, I am part of it!!
Also, I work with the elderly here...several things are changing...nursing homes are just a part of how were care for our elderly now...Home health care is one of the fastest growing businesses in the US...there is also a growing trend to do exactly as the Chinese do...more and more families are opting to live under one roof in order to care for their aging parents and insure they have quality of life, dignity, and proper care.... Lastly, due to the "great" recession and losing huge portions of their retirement savings, more and more baby boomers are not retiring, many say they will continue to work for as long as they are able...

Yes, Venus I am and you don't have to insult me...I am also aware of how vast a sum 14.3 trillion is...That, in case you didn't know is our national deficit.....
Apr 16, 2011 10:51 AM CST Would you vote for Donald Trump for President?

I wouldn't argue with that. It's more or less saying that we're now heading to the lifestyle of the Chinese peasant - which is exactly what happens by going back to the same system that we had before the recession. Only this time we're selling ourselves to them, and they have all the money - the banks get rich playing the middleman, they don't care which country is trashed in the process.

Not insulting you and furthermore I never would...Stick around once you see me insult someone, theres no mistake...Im saying 1.4 trillion is an amount beyong imagining...at least for me

Andrew Steele Globe and Mail Update Posted on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 8:40PM EDT
A few months ago, I said the field would essentially freeze at Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich because those candidates had too much profile to allow lesser dark horse candidates to thrive.
The four main tribes of the Republican Party (social conservatives, Tea Partiers, the wealthy, neo-conservatives) each have a horse in the race, and they aren’t going to leave that candidate for a less appealing figure with no natural constituency. There just aren’t very many paths for an unknown Senator or Governor to get the votes to win.
The thesis failed to account for the possibility of another high wattage public figure entering the race, which is what happened. Donald Trump is now tied for first among Republican primary voters, in the latest CNN poll.
What does this poll mean? Well, it sure made Barack Obama’s month. The leading candidates for the Republican nomination are badly damaged.
A good test of a candidate’s electability is if you can summarize their negatives in a bumper sticker. Here is a very quick scan of the Republican field:
Trump: Bankrupted casinos? You’re fired
Huckabee: Raised taxes, and pardoned convict who killed four cops
Palin: She can see Russia from her house
Gingrinch: Left his wife while she was in the hospital for cancer, and government shutdown
Romney: RomneyCare is basically ObamaCare, and his flip-flops and Mormonism

He owned and managed umpteen businesses and allowed a couple of them to go bankrupt in order to restructure debt terms. Hardly going bankrupt.
In any case, the guy owns one hell of a lot of prime property that he himself bought and developed, continuing to make money hand over fist.
Obama had a terrorist help him write a book and handed out other people's money. Hardly political experience.

geneva60: he has ideas dealing with China business-wise NOT political-wise. He made lots of money from China, he said it himself on TV China is not the only country in the world nor the only country a US president or government will deal with
True but it is the one country that the US owes a lot of money to and the one country that manipulates it's currency to gain even more of an edge in trade with the US.
Obama team accuses China of manipulating its currency:
Barack Obama's choice as the next treasury secretary has fired the first shot in what could be a new protectionist battle between America and China.
Tim Geithner told US senators that Obama believes that China has been manipulating its currency, the yuan - an accusation that is likely to hurt relations between the two countries.
In written testimony at a confirmation hearing, Geithner said that "President Obama - backed by the conclusions of a broad range of economists - believes that China is manipulating its currency."
The prospect that China might respond by selling some these assets off triggered a drop in the value of long-term US treasuries yesterday.
The term "manipulates" is politically sensitive, as under America's trade laws the US treasury must identify any country that manipulates its exchange rate to gain an advantage in international trade.
But Geithner's remarks may find favour with the American manufacturers, unions and politicians who have claimed that Chinese firms have an unfair edge over foreign competitors.

Well Al, you are certainly entitled to your opinion...I don't like Obama either...Donald Trump for president...a joke IMO.......no experience....just what we need here, Corporate America at the helm...we have enough corrupt politicians already.....like I said, no experience....

I don't know what to think of the Trumpster. He's going to have to do a bangup sales job on me if he wants me to vote for him in the primaries. I'll say that much.

Amen, Thank you.
Being successful running a business is NOT the same as running a country especially one such as the USA.
Albertaghost: True but it is the one country that the US owes a lot of money to and the one country that manipulates it's currency to gain even more of an edge in trade with the US. Obama's solution is
Trumps is to stop this as I explained earlier.
Again, I repeat,
Being successful running a business is NOT the same as running a country especially one such as the USA. even if the US owes China and what has that got to do with running the country USA successfully??????

Hey Garden...a couple of thoughts...the bankruptcy's aside...
I , for one, would like to know how/why TRUMP DID NOT SERVE IN THE MILITARY...ESPECIALLY WITH A WAR GOING ON... As a socialite, what does he know about middle class America..... How about his much publicized affair with Marla Maples...doesn't say much to me about the mans character.... He's been married three times...don't know how the voting population will take it...personally, I could care less but it doesn't say much about his ability to commit..... And last, and most important, he has no experience in Constitutional Law, military, or foreign policy....

The Donald...are you kidding me.....
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Yes being married 3 times will not sit well with some Republicans and the nChristian right. And I think his current wife is old enough to be his daughter?
