Sparky55: But they're great at giving us the business.

The Reps need to come up with someone a little less tainted. DT may very well have the skills necessary but those have been overshadowed by all the publicty and his public image. The Reps need to move away from folks Like Huckabee and DT because they have simply provided too much ammunition to the Dems through their extensive TV roles.

In any case, I couldn't see myself voting for him unless he won the GOP nomination and was running against President Obama. Frankly, I would almost vote for anyone rather than see a 2nd term for P. Obama.

There are many, many reasons that Donald Trump should NEVER be president of the USA, however failing at business ISN'T one of them.... Failing at business or other areas of our lives is a way to learn and improve... fear of failure lead to fear of trying new things.... and that's just sad.

Most of his failures were due to stupid government policies and troubles with the economy. He might be able to fix government.

Yes, and if logic becomes politically correct, things will soon level out.....

Just had a positive thought about Obama winning the election...the first and only one I've had about the man......

If Hillary had won, I think we would be stuck with the same faulty bailout and the same faulty, faulty healthcare bill...however, after those two monumental mistakes were made, I think Hillary would have "somehow" managed to redeem herself...Obama, on the other hand, continued to give America a big F YOU !
Sooooooooooooooooo....the way I see it, he's got about as much chance as a snow ball in hell when it comes to winning another term...Hillary might have gone two terms and then where would we be?????????rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing Just looking for a positive spin...any positive spin!laugh

Using your logic all businesses should go BK because "stupid government policies and troubles with the economy" affect all businesses, not just his.
Sorry but that line of reasoning just doesn't cut it. It sounds more like an excuse than a reason.

Well, true however his business is real estate and there's little argument the cause of that debacle was government sourced and bankers taking advantage etc...

I though he was a man of the born-rich who made a good amount of money from the gambling business and real estate - two parasitic industries.

If he's the best the Capitalist class can come up with then no wonder you're/we're in such a mess - he's no Henry Ford put it that way.

Surely the American political machines have better candidates than the ones shown on this thread.....My mind is not made up yet on Obama as he has had a lot of folk trying to cut the legs from him since day one.

I fail to see what the American folk are against Social Healthcare it works well in many countries.

I know we have snags every so often but that is usually because of bad management and Government interferance.....

Trump a CinC Nope I cannot see that given his past anyone could trust him at all.....

The reason why I don't think social healthcare works in America is because anything socialistic can only function in the context of a community. That is, for it to work you need the sense of reciprocal loyalty between individuals. America is too diverse a country for this, maybe a socialist initiative could function within one state and not the other, but it's foolish to treat America as a single entity - which is why in my opinion Obama is wrong.

As for Trump, he's just one of the dominant minority(and he was born into it), he is not part of the gifted minority. Many it would seem, don't know the difference.

"Obamacare" won't work for several reasons...one, is because with it there would be no increase in competition...Private insurers cannot compete unless the anti-trust exemption is removed to allow insurance to be sold across state lines...There is no cost containment with his plan because low income and uninsured would have to be subsidized..Rationing based on cost would be eliminated..The plan did nothing to change the way medicine is practiced, it just shifts spending from private to public insurers...doctors will continue defensive medicine and unnecessary testing...Another big problem with the bill is it does not focus on effective preventative care..... There is no deficit control, studies for the first 10 years were based on taxes and revenue building starting in 2010 and health insurance starting in 2013....studies based on 10 years of each show massive deficits...His plan is not universal either, 5 to 7 % of the population would not be covered...

At least Trump has proven he knows how to run a business and make a profit...the country in part is a business and must be profitable, running in the red for years is not really considered a profit. He couldn't be any worse than what we have had in the past, that is not my opinion just observation of the records.

I agree, those are technical reasons for it not to work. My answer was in the terms of socialised healthcare, which is not in reality Obamacare at all - the real benefit of socialising healthcare is the fact that you can cut out the bureaucracy that is the insurers, which is not what Obama is doing. However, socialist healthcare like we have in the NHS over here could never work in America for cultural reasons, in my opinion.

As for the point on competition, I would argue that this is very industry specific, I would say that a doctor is a doctor for prestige, importance or out of a sense of compassion, more so than profit-motive. So from this the will to improve practice is inherent because the saving of lives ranks higher than acquisition of wealth in the minds of most doctors - the sense of "competition" comes from the task in hand(the caring for life)and not from whom competes against you.
