Your reasons may not be the same as for someone else. So I think its something that you need to figure out for yourself, perhaps monitor when you smoke.
Not being a smoker myself, I would hazard to guess after a period of time its an addiction ....... so you'll have to replace one habit with another (but choose something better for yourself). Good luck!

postivethinker: I faced solutionless problems in 1995 and started smoking.
And did smoking lead to a solution? Or did it just add one more solutionless problem?
I've heard this countless times before by people who turn to alcohol or drugs (nicotine is a powerful drug) when life throws a problem in their path. At the very time they need a clear mind to find a solution to their problem they sabotage their efforts by impairing and disabling the ONE thing that is capable of finding the solution, their BRAIN.
Life is a long series of problems and by tackling one small problem and solving it, you gain experience and confidence to take on the next problem. As you go through life solving one problem after another, you get to a point where nothing can beat you, because you have already faced this situation and fixed it before.
I started after the smoking ban came into force in the UK. Got fed up with being left on my own while eveyone else went outside for a cig so ended up joining them and started smoking. The irony is all the time smoking was allowed in pubs it never even crossed my mind to have a cig.
I was very stressed at the time of giving up and have now found smoking was not the way to deal with stress. You will know when you are ready and you will give up.
Because we seen somthing that makes us think it's cool.It could be like when you 5 years old and you see a guy lighting up coming out of a candy store as you pass by in the back seat of you Dads car.
WantedForLife: No relationship at all darlin, its obviously about quiting smoking. Some do,... some don't
yeah i was a bit puzzled at that too, esp when i went to write a reply and it looked like i was going to post a whole new thread...
Anyway, i smoked because of peer pressure when i was younger, then it became a weak excuse of dealing with stress, i am happy to report though, that i quit cold turkey a year and a half ago...
