Ok so you told an untrue story that you were under the impression was true... is that such a big deal?
Everybody makes mistakes (I didnt read the story by the way) if you feel it is manly to own up to them then I accept that however the way you have put is kind of grovelling and wimpish perhaps it would just have been better to have forgotten the whole episode and put it down to experience.

That is because what is asked of them is usually either too outrageous or non practical.
Had a woman once who asked me to install a wash hand basin in her house. Her interpretation of "install" was I placed the wash hand basin where she wanted it and it worked! Little did she realize that a wash hand basin requires hot and cold water connections along with a drain all plumbed into existing services that are usually concealed in a wall or under a concrete floor.
