Old photo is better than no photo, at least it gives an idea of what the person looks like.
That said I have read many a horror story about people meeting where the one or other has aged to the point where they are completely different to the photo posted.

I joined CS to find a girlfriend and was successful. The site offers other features that are interesting and as one blog mentioned for many although unsuccessful at finding what they were looking for do use CS as a form of social media.
