RE: Smokes and drugs

Not really along for the ride, it's very much the driver. Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances around. It's also potentially lethal compared to many other drugs, just a very small amount injected into the bloodstream would likely result in death.

RE: R.I.P. John Hume (Aug 3rd 2020)

I heard that very touching messages of condolence were sent by the Pope and the Dali Lama.

That's says a lot about the man.

RE: Beirut

I used to use a very similar compound that caused the devastating
explosion...ammoniacal silver nitrate when manufacturing mirrors many years ago.
We new that you had to be very careful when making a silver mix as it was potentially explosive. In fact the residue after silvering a piece of glass was so volatile, it would explode under its own weight just by throwing a small piece onto the ground.

After seeing the footage of the explosion yesterday it makes me realise just how dangerous that stuff can be and how lucky we were back then as we used to prepare gallons of the stuff over many years.

A very sad incident indeed, in a country that has suffered badly over the years.

"Soldier, fix your bayonet before the enemy come
'Cos you won't have time, when they start to climb the hill, y'know

Don't see them as men, just see them as enemies of the king, y'know"

RE: News Elderly may be asked to stay at home under ministers' blueprint to avoid new lockdown

You don't have to be deaf to not hear.

Nor blind to not see.

Ignorance is the worst human affliction.

When the mice start throwing themselves on the traps when she comes home.

"Everything we are touched by, you and I,
Draws us together as the stroke of the bow
Mingles two strings on a single note,
Upon which instrument have we been
strung?
And in the hands of which musician are we
held?
Oh sweet song."

RE: Coronavirus: UK quarantine restrictions unjust - Spain PM

More bumbling and on the hoof legislation by the government.
Many thousands have been waiting for restrictions to be lifted or 'air corridors' to be established before they travelled. Most of these are not in a position to quarantine for two weeks after their holiday.
So no sooner than the quarantine requirement is lifted and thousands jet off to Spain, the quarantine period is reintroduced leaving holidaymakers in a very bad situation through no fault of their own.
Why didn't the government at least give a couple of weeks notice in order to allow those already out in Spain to return home to the same arrangements that were in place when they left the uk? And why include the Balearic and Canary Islands in the restrictions when seemingly, they are, at this moment safer than the uk?

So much confusion cause by such faltering leadership has been a shortcoming of government throughout this entire period from day one.

RE: A song for..

Family were my favourite band in the sixties and early seventies. I saw them live many times, their live performances were far better than their studio recordings. Quite often this track, A Song For Me could last for 20 minutes or so live, as opposed to 9 minutes on the record.
Check out their most well known song....The Weavers Answer.....great lyrics...just wonderful...thumbs up
