If I could do anything differently, I would've stuck with my high school sweetheart, instead of getting mixed up with my ex. But then, I wouldn't have my little family then.
The summer I can smell the most? It would have to be the summer of '76, when my parents took us on a summer-long vacation all over the south. We stayed in Biloxi most of the summer & visited friends both on the way there & back. We went on our friends' shrimp boat for the Blessing of the Fleet. We also went to New Orleans, LA, where we saw the French Quarter & the Superdome; went to Ponchetrain, where we crossed the Lake Ponchetrain bridge (span about 26 miles); & went all over Florida, visiting SeaWorld & Disney World (before Epcot Center was built). We had soooo much fun that summer!
I'm an artist. I like to draw pictures of faces... usually girls' faces. I don't have them posted on the web though. I love to draw. They're usually pencil drawings, but I've used chalk pastels as well, in the past.
My best friend's daughters just love my bacon cheese fries... which I've started calling my "fabulous fries". Just about every time I go over there, they ask me to make them.
I cut up a few potatoes, fry them in vegetable oil, then drain them on a plate covered with a paper towel. I then add kosher salt, pepper, celery salt, garlic powder, & old bay seasoning. Then I put them on a baking sheet. I coat them with shredded cheddar cheese & bacon pieces. Then they go into the oven on "broil" until the cheese is all melted. Serve them with a cup of ranch dressing for dipping. YUMMMMMY!!
A couple of years ago, I was dealing with a student on payments. She hadn't paid enough for her tuition & fees. We were talking on the phone & I told her she'd have to come in & make payment, as it couldn't be handled online.
As I studied her account later in the day, I realized a way that she COULD make payment without having to run to our office to do so. I called & told her what she needed to do. She called me back & thanked me for looking further into it.
A few days later, I got an email from her, CCed to my supervisor, praising me for always being so friendly & going above & beyond what I needed to do. She said that she hoped I'd get some sort of compensation for doing so... but this is my job. Both my supervisor & I emailed her back, thanking her & telling her how we often hear of poor service, but rarely do we get commendations.
I printed the email out & keep it in my personal folder, to possibly be used if I look for another position.
My ex-mother in law was teaching me to make chili years ago. I had the burger cooking in a pot, when all of a sudden, we heard a huge crack & the pot broke in half! Everything was everywhere! My ex-husband came running up from the basement to see what had happened.
It was a faulty burner on a very old stove, but my ex-MIL always said I make a he** of a pot of chili.
I just came back from getting my lunch. The girl at the drive-thru window was so extremely friendly, that I just have to pull the company up online & tell them what a fantastic job she did.
All too often we're very quick to criticize when we get poor service... I've done it, myself. But do you let a company know when they have an exemplary employee, who you feel went above & beyond their duty?
Do you have any stories of such service? Have you ever gotten a letter/token of praise or something said to your company/supervisor about the exemplary job you've done?
My mom used to make a soup called 'hamburger soup'. She fried up burger, drained it, diced up a few potatoes, roughly chopped onions (big chunks) & put them all together in a pot with salt & pepper. I haven't eaten it in years! I may have to try that this weekend!
I have to agree. It's never nearly as good as homemade. Just to look at it turns me off. I never order meatloaf in a restaurant. I rarely order liver & onions in a restaurant either. You can always tell a cook who likes liver as opposed to one who doesn't, in the way they make it.
I remember hearing the music from the ice cream truck & running to Mom for money. She'd give us some, say, "Get me a banjo!", & we'd be off running down the street after the ice cream man.
I remember learning to ride bicycle while I lived in Mississippi. I fell in a nest of fire ants & my mom had to take me to the hospital to be treated. Fire ants in the south aren't to be messed with!
Oh, I had one of those bosses, Snuggs & I DON'T envy you!!! I was ready to quit, cash in my retirement, & work at McDonald's, if I had to. Nobody should be subjected to being treated like that.
I always try to treat others as I'd want to be treated. In fact, my office gets many compliments on how nice we treat visitors. I always say that I treat people the way I'd want/want my daughter to be treated.
