RE: Why do small men

If it is just personal taste then why make the thread?

Surely it is fairly obvious why a short man would hit on a taller woman. He thinks she is hot/pretty/funny/interesting/drunk enough to say yes laugh

How is the guy supposed to know what your personal taste is in men? Maybe a guy you might talk to might prefer a completely different type of person to yourself. Only one way of finding out though.

RE: Dont fence me in...remember Hillsborough?

Sean Cavanagh All Ireland winner, says:

RE: Dont fence me in...remember Hillsborough?

The fences are regrettable, but people only have themselves to blame. Lots here explaining how pitch invasions before the trophy presentation are just wrong.

RE: Dont fence me in...remember Hillsborough?

How can you possibly identify, track down and bar thousands upon thousands of people that enter the pitch after the All Irelands?

You are not thinking about 21st Century fencing in stadiums. It is not a "fence" in the way you think of a fence. These exist all over the world. The Bundesliga in Germany has some of these as well as safe terracing and there is never any problems.

People entering the pitch ruins all existing emergency plans. The biggest danger is seeing the amount of people leaving via the Hogan Stand when they run onto the pitch. I'm not sure that you are aware of how dangerous it got last year on Jones Road.

RE: Why do guys....

Thats a bit harsh! I had a photo up of me (though not my profile) with one of my best friends who just happens to be a girl. I don't like many pictures that I have of myself and I actually thought I was alright in that one so I put it up.

In general I don't really like people having pictures with loads of people in them as their profile pictures. Hard to work out who they actually are. Lots of girls have profile photos with a big group of girls. Never sure if you are talking to the hottie or her friend rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Dont fence me in...remember Hillsborough?

That is an incident which had about 100 different reasons for what happened. Fences had nothing to do with there being way, way too many people in that stand. Overcrowding, people going in without tickets, terrible crowd management, bad policing etc caused Hillsborough. That is also virtually a stone age stadium compared to Croke Park nowadays.

You have to be able to see that problems that can happen with pitch invasions. They have tried so many different ways to stop them, they have to use fences. The fences are pretty good and are a world away from those used in English soccer stadiums in the 70s and 80s.

RE: Dont fence me in...remember Hillsborough?

They 100% can be taken down easily. They are specifically designed to be collapsible in an emergency. They are not "dead weights". They will also be easily opened as they often are at other stadiums around the world. It is not like a fence around a jail, it is a functional structure.

Croke Park has excellent internal facilities for emergency situations, there is no issues from that perspective. The only issues is the behaviour of idiots invading the pitch.

RE: Why have no Irish actresses made it big in Hollywood?

Grace Kelly's parents were from Pennsylvania. Here family emmigrated to America in the 19th Century. She might get in via the Granny rule.

Maureen O'Hara on the other hand, is definitely our biggest ever actress.

RE: Why have no Irish actresses made it big in Hollywood?

Sarah Jessica Parker. End of rolling on the floor laughing But seriously there are some, Whoopi Goldberg is hardly going to win Miss World for example. Also men have different ways of being attractive, what you might call an ugly man somebody else might say is rugged etc.

Irish actresses tend to not really get much of an opportunity in movies. Most our our better actresses are in theatre. Maria Doyle Kennedy for example was just in Irish movies like The Commitments. She got lucky then with The Tudors. Maybe it is something to do with the image of women in Ireland. There are some differences there with the whole Irish Mammies thing being one example.

Saoirse Ronan looks like being our first proper movie star. I'd also mention that Olivia Wilde has 2 Irish parents and went to Trinity College. She thinks of herself as Irish.

RE: Dont fence me in...remember Hillsborough?

Very good point. Plus Hillsborough was about much more than fences.

The potential crushes on the pitch when morons invade the pitch is a much bigger problem. The crush towards the Hogan Stand during the presentations is getting out of hand. Before during invasions, much less people were on the pitch so it was manageable to an extent. With the redevelopment more people are getting on. It has to be stopped before something terrible happens. The potential issues on Jones Road after the game is another big problem too.

Also, Sean Cavanagh and PJ Ryan made excellent points in yesterdays Independent about how awful it is from a players perspective when the invasion happens.

RE: how come all ths best women are not from the west ????

They must send all the hot girls from the West to Dublin laugh

RE: Kilkenny hurlers for five in a row.

Cork underage hurling has been pretty crap for the last decade. All the strikes have prevented more players coming onto the senior panel too.

RE: Senator David Norris for President!

I'd like to fill Grainne's, ahem, "vacancy" rolling on the floor laughing

RE: how come all ths best women are not from the west ????

I love girls from Connacht. Not sure what they are like on here though. But in college all the girls from the West were always really pretty. And TG4 girls are especially hot laugh

RE: Senator David Norris for President!

I met David Norris once in a shop. He remarked about me buying The Guardian and The Sun at the same time, asked if I had a split personality. Seemed a nice, friendly man.

RE: Senator David Norris for President!

I was pointing out the idiocy of trying to live by a code supposedly given to us from God. I presumed that was pretty evident in my post.

RE: Kilkenny hurlers for five in a row.

It is both a positive and a negative to have one dominant team like Kilkenny.

One positive is that this team will be remembered forever, so we can all say that we lived through this era. I regret not seeing the Kerry teams of the 70s/80s and this Kilkenny team is the hurling equivalent. They are an all time great team and it s great to see a team like them.

Plus the day they are beaten, preferably in an All Ireland final will be epic. Just like Seamus Darby beating Kerry was. Some Tipp player can write themselves into history this year.

However, such dominance ruins the spectacle after a while. I love seeing them at their peak, but I'd love to see more teams challenging them. It just ruins the surprise factor when KK are guaranteed to be in the final every year. Leinster has become a joke these days, they are so dominant. If Wexford, Dublin, Galway or Antrim were in Munster, they'd always have a shot at doing well. But now, they know they have the greatest team of all time in front of them.

It is not Kilkenny's job to worry about other teams, the other teams have to try and step up and match them. Maybe when Henry retires and a few of the others go, things will even out. It will change someday so lets enjoy them when we have them.

RE: hottest irish woman

She is a smart girl, there is plenty going on upstairs. She got a first in her degree.

She's much nicer and more natural off camera. She is a bit guarded on TV due to lots of reasons. Much prettier in real life in normal clothes and with natural make-up.

RE: hottest irish woman

Are you drunk? She is out-of-this-World hot! Second hottest girl I've met in the flesh in my life.

RE: Ground Zero with a Muslim Mosque

Islam has been poached by radicals, especially since the revolution in Iran. Iran before the revolution and after is enough of a reason to dislike theocracies. I see countries ruled by religion as being backward, misogynistic and repressive.

RE: Ground Zero with a Muslim Mosque

I could give you a long, long post about this so I'll try and keep it somewhat short!

I agree that studying religious history is vital to our understanding of human history. But religion has nearly always been a basic method of social control. I'd much rather states had that power (as they mainly do in the West) and religion became something you could practice privately if you wished. Cultural traditions can be maintained like St Patricks Day, but that has little or nothing to do with religion these days.

Organised religions nearly always become about the powerful controlling the weak. Catholicism became dominant because a Roman Emperor decided to use it to his advantage. Islam is now seeing some vulnerable people being exploited to become fanatics.

This is a pretty short summary of what I think, but I basically just don't like organised religions!

RE: Ground Zero with a Muslim Mosque

Never let idiots win. Build it, have it as a multi-cultural centre and hope that it heals the wounds.

If I had my way, there would be no religious aspect to public life at all, but I can see how building a mosque there would be useful.

RE: why every man should have 2 tv's

Just wait till the weeks Pixie Lott and Katy Perry are judges. I'll be tuned in and my straightness will be very intact laugh

Shame there is no Holly Willoughby now. I never actually watch the main show but tuned in to check out Holly.

RE: Ground Zero with a Muslim Mosque

That sort of fanaticism is wrong in any religion. It is so sad that there are people thinking like that and the problem is getting worse. If it carries on, it could become an "us against them" situation that will get even more out of hand. The sad thing is that such attitudes are actually pretty new and have little or nothing to do with Islam.

Same way that radical Catholics, Protestants etc now and in the past are in no way representative of what they say they are standing for.

RE: Ground Zero with a Muslim Mosque

Not all of Islam attacked America, just terrorists who happened to be Muslims. Building a mosque builds bridges and stops issues growing. Obama is supporting it because things like that stop hate and divisions growing.
