They have no genuine beliefs. Their policies can change with the wind. They are not sincere in their left wing ideals. You don't have to be right wing to not be left wing. They are just nothing.
Also on a mildly different note, increasing corpo tax would be a dreadful mistake. Also the irony of the political wing of the IRA going on about neutrality is a bit much.
That would be better than what we presently have anyway. The German example is what revived talking about a National Government here.
You would need to combine the best TDs from all parties to get the best possible cabinet. I'd love to see Lenihan, Bruton, Noonan, O'Dea etc all working together. It would also get rid of the toxic effects of party politicking for a while.
Also the point about standing for whatever the public want, that can be said about any political party. Which is why I support the National Government idea.
Lucinda Creighton said a lot of home truths in her infamous speech. I particularly agree with her idea about the dearth of individual thought in politics here. Irish politics (or any party politics) is designed around personal glory. They will say or do anything to get power.
Well that is what I mean by guff. They spout ridiculous nonsense everytime they open their mouths. Their "budget" plans are always completely unworkable nonsense that would cripple the country. I would not expect any more from ex cons anyway.
If Sinn Fein are ever voted in I am leaving Ireland. In no way shape or form should we have their idiotic policies. Just listen to any of their guff and that will be obvious. Their shady friends around the world are to be avoided too.
Labour are OK. But a National Government has been my personal choice for a long time.
Do you know what the word fundamentalist means? It is a strict adherence to any set of basic ideas or principles: the fundamentalism of the extreme conservatives.
What part of that includes terrorism? They are no different to any terrorist group using certain issues to further their own self interests.
Language like yours continues the divide between religions and keeps it being a Muslim/Christian thing instead of it being a right and wrong thing. No part of the Koran approves of what Al Qaeda and their followers are doing.
I think one post on a women for peace website is hardly enough evidence to over rule the United Nations' view on Iran. Iran would be better if they removed the Ayatollah and moved towards democracy. Iran may have improved recently in some minor respects, but they bad vastly outweighs the good.
Yeah I won't be switching over. I'll stick with Federer/Djokovic, it's another heavyweight clash! The end if the United game irritates me too much to watch the soccer highlights till the morning!
I said I did not accuse you of anything. You are quoting a post where I am saying that as well. I even broke up my points into one answering you and one general one about the Muslim/terrorist issue.
I'm not saying you were. But your post seemed a good place to say what I felt about the way people talk about 9/11.
Just referring to them as Muslims instead of terrorists, as many do, is to be avoided. The IRA bombing the UK did not represent all of us, Al Qaeda do not represent all Muslims.
I think it is pretty fair to say that it was not a one off event. There has been nearly a decade of reprisals back and forth. It is the key event in a decade of war and economic disasters. 9/11 changed an awful lot about our lives. It influenced global events much more than Pinochet ever could.
9/11 struck a cord in the West as it was close to home. Being on a plane or going to work (like the victims of 9/11 did) are both easily identifiable for us in the West. Being murdered by a dictator in Chile is less identifiable. Plus the average Irish person probably knows very little about Chile or Pinochet, thus they don't care as much as they would about the country that they watch every day in TV, movies etc.
All needless deaths are to be mourned, there is no need to pick out any as more worthy of our attention. But it is understandable why 9/11 gets more attention than Pinochet. Also, 9/11 happened in one day, so it is more eye catching than a change that led to years of a brutal regime.
You should be terrorist bashing, not Muslim bashing. Using their religion to identify them is the gateway to sectarianism.
I dread Big Brother and all reality TV. Major TV stations saw a chance to make money producing cheap TV, a disaster for anybody that wants to watch good TV shows. Thank God for HBO.
Maybe that is it. But I think Wayne could live on the 150 grand a week he gets from United and then all his other sponsorship deals. Rooney is my age and married with kids, madness. If he wasn't married, he could screw around and nobody would care.
