People are perfectly capable of forgiveness, in fact once you've realised what a burden resentment and blame really is, bearing a grudge becomes no longer an option. Forgive and forget however isn't usually possible, the mind cannot erase at will. The best we can do is forgive and lose interest.
If it is an attempt to reduce world population, I'm all for it, makes perfect sense. It's the only hope the human race has got, even more so for the creatures we share the planet with.
True, to pass on happiness and strive to ease others suffering is the greatest gift we can give to humanity. Some might say, as human beings, its our true purpose in life.
It was supposed to be a quick forty minute flight through the mountains, but after twenty minutes the pilot aborted the flight and returned back to Peshawar. I wasn't totally surprised, we were warned this might happen, well it is regarded as one of the most dangerous passenger flights in the world. So, with the two later flights that day also cancelled, we had no choice but to find a bus that would take us on our journey.
This was easier said than done. It took us a few hours of being led round the back streets of Peshawar followed by a small crowd of curious children in search of the illusive bus to Chitral. Finally our friendly self proclaimed helper pointed down a dirty looking alleyway and exclaimed, "Chitral, bus to Chitral down there." So, after a further three hour wait we finally boarded our bus to Chitral, and I use the term 'bus' loosely, I didn't even have any glass in the window I was sat next to.
I cannot describe the following twenty seven hour journey on here, it would too long. Best I can do mention a few of the highlights of the journey. I could mention how we were ambushed on two occasions, or how the driver was beaten on three other occasions. Or not to mention him breaking his big toe when he kicked the punctured tyre in frustration as it was our second puncture and we no longer had a spare.
It was at this point we decided to abandon the bus, leave the luggage on board and try and get a lift the rest of the way to Chitral. This was not an easy task, we were in the middle of nowhere in the baking sun and not a vehicle to be seen for almost an hour. Finally a jeep appeared in the distance and with a screech of brakes and a cloud of dust, the driver, (who appeared to be at least a year off becoming a teenager,) beckoned us over. It turned out the jeep was owned by a judge from Chitral and he was most pleased to have three Westerners to join him for the rest of the journey. So, off we went at what seemed breakneck speed, the judge apologised for his young drivers apparent reckless speed over a very poor road, but explained, "I told him to put his foot down, I've just sat on a case in Swat, (a different district to Chitral) and I'm going to be home very late. He insisted on dropping us at our hotel in Chitral and then insisted we go to his house the following evening for dinner. As he was leaving he said, "don't forget, I send my driver to pick you up tomorrow night and bring you to my house."
Thinking about Ralph, he dated and eventually married someone from another country. They met on here , Maria moved over to Edinburgh from Spain when they married. Quite a success story for cs.
Do you remember Pat from Glasgow? Can't remember his username, he's been gone for a long time now. Ralph from Edinburgh was great fun, I stayed in contact with him on fb after he left.
It's worth noting, especially when children might be playing around a vegetable patch, that any part of potato plants above the ground, flowers, leaves and stems are extremely toxic. The sprouts of the potato and and any parts of the potato beneath the skin which are green are also poisonous.
It's called 'caronaphobia' and many of us are affected by it to some degree. I was at a little woden shack like shop by a canal last week which seved hot drinks and snacks through a small opening. The owner, obviously had a bad case of caronaphobia judging by the way he'd went about his business. He'd set up a pulley and belt system so he could stay at the back of the shack, serve and dispense change while keeping at least ten feet away from his customers. He even sprayed the fiver pound note I'd put on the belt with disinfectant. ...
FB is an invaluable way of keeping in touch with people you've met while travelling, especially people from other parts of the world. Also the many groups on there keep me informed of various activities taking place and introduces me to like minded people. FB really does influence how I live my life, CS is just a bit of an occasional distraction.
They're a great band and it's a good tune. I'd certainly have liked to have been at Glastonbury for that performance. Check out the drumming on this track....
Of course it's just a label, and one that has little meaning outside Western culture. Buddhist philosophy, or teachings as I prefer to call it can be of great value to anyone who wants to live a more meaningful and peaceful life. Most of the teachings make perfect sense to me and have been invaluable in my life over the past ten years or so. But I think a religious aspect appears in the teachings surrounding re-birth. I've met quite a few practising Buddhists, including a long ordained monk who struggle with this idea and it is this concept for me that takes Buddhism from a philosophy into the realms of religion. It's perfectly possible to follow The Buddha's teachings and even follow the path of Dharma without fully accepting the Buddhist view on re-birth. I guess it's like taking on Christian values but having no belief in heaven and hell.
