Yeah, and my love said pretty much the same thing - not seeing anything negative coming from you...in fact, you've handled the situation quite graciously, considering how critical some people have been.
I'd wonder why it's always shorter guys who start these threads, but then the answer's fairly obvious.
Okay, despite that crack, I'm very sympathetic. I can imagine the frustration of being a bit shorter than what a lot of women want. I wouldn't be with my love right now if I were much under 6 feet, and that's a very scary thought.
It's just one of those things. Most women seem to want a guy who's taller than they. But there are some women who don't care, or don't care so much, about that, so things aren't so terribly grim.
You missed the cross-dresser tree-cutting contest, Sweet! It was incredibly exciting - nail-bitingly close to the very last cut of the chainsaws. Naturally, I won. Few people have my experience lumberjacking in stiletto heels.
But other than that, nothing much, really. Nice to see you back!
Hmmm...wow! We must've reading entirely different threads. I see no evidence of rudeness, lack of gratitude, etc., at all from this guy - quite the opposite. He's been remarkably genial and non-defensive considering some of the flack he's gotten, and he has expressed gratitude on a number of occasions. I have to think you're seeing what you wish to see here, Audry; sorry, but I don't have a better explanation.
I think that would probably be an excellent idea. By the way, your new photo - that's what I'm talking about! It shows another, much more appealing, side to you, imo. It's funky, stylish, brash, and shows some self-confidence. Way to go, EP.
No, my point was that a government (or anyone) acting forcibly does not demonstrate by that mere act of force that it's actions are justified. Not saying you believe that, but you did list force as the criterion for a government's rightness in the case of vaccines. I'm just replying that might doesn't make right.
Actually, wide-scale force in epidemic conditions could be employed on a military scale here in the U.S. I think if that happens we're entitled to question the declaring of martial law. We may reasonably ask if such measures are, for instance, a cover for mass power-grab. The cover of martial law certainly has been employed in other countries for that purpose. An epidemic, "disorder," "terrorists," etc., are all possible rationales for the employment of troops against citizens. I was half-expecting it from Bush near the end of his term.
Oh, the vast majority of Americans wouldn't dispute that in the slightest, Captain. America is no longer the champion of freedom. The most you can say about now is there may be greater numbers of liberty-lovers here, but - most so-called liberty-lovers here have no clue about what that means. It's like they read somewhere the America's about freedom, and then their thought-processes stop.
Damn - that's a fantastic idea for a movie, Vix! I wonder if we could combine that them with swamp land and a turnip truck? That would be a sure-fire winner!
I'm thinking you might benefit hugely by talking to someone - a counselor or therapist.
The fact that you're self-aware enough to see parts of yourself honestly is far more than most people have accomplished, EP. I hope you take some solace in that, and in your obvious intelligence. If you just hang in there long enough, those good qualities of yours will come increasingly to the fore. There isn't any simple way to will oneself to be happy.
I don't find you pathetic at all, if that's any consolation. You remind me a LOT of my youngest son - another bright lad who battles with depression and lack of motivation and poor self-image. While he, like you, has many beautiful qualities that are just aching to come out.
I don't see that it follows logically that because a government forces us to do something that such action is justified.
Plenty of people thought the draft was necessary to fight Communism in Vietnam. To follow your stance logically would require you to agree with this compulsory policy since "it's been determined something's about which not to chance or toy with," no?
Captain: "I’m not for any sort of massive vaccinations. That’s not what I mean. I’m talking threats of possible outbreaks."
Well, I know you could introduce a hypothetical (such as Ebola) that might compel even some with such strong libertarian sentiments as myself to make an exception (for example, I'm opposed to drug laws, but I would favor banning a drug that caused everyone to become a homicidal maniac), but I'd argue that in order to avoid a slippery slope with such compulsory edicts I'd want to place the bar of evidence and exigence *extremely* high - far higher than a flu like Swine Flu which represents no special threat by any account I've read.
If you don't set that bar extremely high, you're opening the door to compulsory inoculations of all sorts - and eventually perhaps to a compulsory Health ID which declares whether or not you're fit to live in society.
I don't see this as striving to be noble; I see forgiveness as being more about learning to live happily with oneself. Your betrayers probably don't feel your grudges; you're the one who has to live with them 24/7.
It's easy to understand why people would find that awfully hard. I know I would, too. But I'm inspired by people who manage it. In fact, I admire them. gg
