RE: I'm coming back in May

Good onya Micky! She was a founding member of the Runaways and this was their big hit. Not the best quality vid:

RE: Melbourne Meet Pics

You are dead right Asha. But I object! Why isn't my name in that list?

RE: For such a small country

Ok, and that's where the connection between climate change and satellites came from ? Did he explain how it worked? Do you think his disappearance was suspicious?

RE: Melbourne Meet Pics

Now that you mention it, I can see the resemblance - a young Joseph Stalin.

Yep some very good pics there Merri. But there were a lot of other cameras snapping there. Who else will put some pics up?

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

Quite a few people under 40 signed up to the meet, but most of them didn't turn up. Never mind, us oldies had fun.
Remember, you'll be old one day too pal.

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

Oh no! Sorry to hear that Merri. Tell that Wash next time you see him he should have paid ATTENTION when he was at uni instead of slacking off. If he had he would have learnt his 24 hour clock times. professor

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

Hahahah.... nooo. Wash n me have a lot in common, eg we are both engineers, both were mature age students, etc. Also, neither of us is gay, so hope that answers your question? rolling on the floor laughing

RE: can amyone in Melbourne-!

Thanks for the compliments about Melbourne. Well, I don't know why I should thank you since I didn't make Melbourne. laugh

But anyway, Mick, you've seen Melbourne in the the Autumn, you might have to arrange a visit in Winter too, like July, August. Not wanting to be a wet blanket, but it's dark, wet, cold.

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

Went great. To answer your question, I don't know as everyone keeps their cards close to their chest. I left early Sat nite, so anyting could have happened after that.

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

Why didn't you come Lookin' ?

RE: Why do "some" women talk like preps.

What's a prep?

RE: Do Scientist play God? Or is it that God made Scientist in his own image and likeness to do his own

Scientists just follow their interests, and the funding. Most of them, like me, don't believe in any gods, so they don't see themselves as playing God.
Hence I can't vote for either option. You should have had more options.

RE: the new romantic era in the 80's was.....

Never heard of the new romantic era.
But I do remember my girlfriend buying me pink jeans and stuff like that. So that's what it was about!

RE: For such a small country

Coll, how would satellites affect the weather/climate?

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

Thanks for posting some piccies Merri. Really enjoyed the dinner and such a pity I missed the flower show. I don't know if there was something wrong with my meal, (unlikely) but I was so crook this morning. Slept till noon and still feeling queasy this afternoon. Hopefully will be well enough to go to meet tonight.

RE: Cannabis is good for you!

It is. Someone I know well has "drug induced psychosis". Who knows, maybe she was susceptible?
Maybe those who are pre-disposed to it are more likely to seek out drugs?

RE: Kanela’s Friday Night at 8.30pm for Dinner and 10pm Show 22 March

Wash, did you book this?

RE: arrrggghhhh! dontcha hate it when....

Are you sure you can handle the cold Asha? Melbourne's cold enough, that's why I'd never want to go to Tassie. But, I suppose y ou can rug up and fire up the heater.

RE: Cannabis is good for you!

The theory is that if you ingest the oil or eat the leaves, you don't get high. You only get high when there is heat involved, eg smoking or baking into cookies.

RE: Cannabis is good for you!

Ok, I posted a bit hastily previously and didn't read the link properly. The website quotes evidence that Cannabis oil "may" be effective in treating cancer.
"Cannabinoids may very well be one of the best disease and cancer fighting treatments out there. If you have heard of Rick Simpson you have heard of his methods of preparing cannabis or hemp in such a way where he is able to extract the oil from it and use that oil to treat cancer. Rick has been very successful in his work and his popularity is growing as a result."

There are some links that lead to some scientific publications. i will follow some of these up later.

However, I still think that "ending" dependence on coal, oil and gas is a pipe dream. If I'm understanding this correctly, the idea is that hemp grows quickly and can be converted to fuel in various ways? My guess is that this would be feasible only if we devoted all food cropping areas to hemp production. Same problem as other biofuels, eg sugar cane.

RE: Cannabis is good for you!

Are you serious? Can you point to any proof that it cures cancer? Seems unlikely.
How the bleep! is it going to end deforestation?? And end coal, oil and gas dependence.
Ok, I get it now this is a joke , right. I always take things too seriously. blushing

RE: Kanela’s Friday Night at 8.30pm for Dinner and 10pm Show 22 March

Ok, looks good. I can't see where it says what night of the week they play. On Sunday nights they have Karavana playing.

The Santa Ana Tapas bar has this:
THE BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB SONGS
THE BEST OF TRADITIONAL CUBAN MUSIC BY "SANTIAGO SON"
EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT (AFTER 9:00PM)

RE: Kanela’s Friday Night at 8.30pm for Dinner and 10pm Show 22 March

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

Thanks Jem, hadn't seen your post. I guess I wasn't too far out.

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

I'm guessing about $45-50 for a taxi. They have to pay an airport charge and the tolls so it adds up.

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

I see there are 28 people signed up for this event: 14 male and 14 female and good to see some younger ones there.
One lady lives in Japan, so I doubt she will come.
What's been the experience with past meets, do a lot of people sign up then not turn up?

RE: MELBOURNE MEET March 23, 2013

Hi Newlife, I've done one cruise, lots of times and I can recommend it. You buy your return ticket at Southbank (which is directly opposite Flinders St station on the other side of the Yarra - just walk over the bridge.)
You'll see the boats lined up there. Take the one to Williamstown, which is about 1/2 hr away by boat. There is a historic shopping strip there with fancy fish/chip places, pubs, restaurants, etc. Take note of the boat departure times for your return trip - and remember where the pier is! It's about $30 bucks or so for the return, maybe $35, can't rmember for sure.
Alternatively, you can take one that goes up-river and see some sights there, and that would be more greenery, rather than the bay, piers, and yachts.
