RE: What are you good at :)

I'm pretty good at transposing formulas. Anyone got any formulas they want transposed?

RE: a bloke who hates women is a misogynist, what do you call a woman who hates men?

Welcome to the forums AUgirl. There is no edit button. :) Make a mistake and you're stuck with it!

RE: North Korea??????

Yep huge personality problems there with their "Dear Leaders" (father and now son.) All grandstanding and bluff so far, but you never know when they will feel they have to follow through or lose face.

RE: Yeah, so going there :D

Wow, you're brave. I've been to a very few places, but can't say I am a keen traveller. I usually travel to the comfort zone, love there! rolling on the floor laughing
Having said that, I do like those raison d'etres, much nicer than sultanas. innocent

RE: A good and just god does not punish'

Hi jac379. I'm an atheist myself, but I don't see much point in arguing against religion on the basis of what we see as god's "faults". If there really is an omnipotent being out there who created the universe and "everything," then surely he/she/it has the right to give life or kill, create or destroy whenever it fancies?
We are meant to love god and fear god at the same time. God split himself into three and sent the "son" part to Earth to die in agony "for our sins, so that we may be saved." None of it makes any sense, it is all utter nonsense, but that still doesn't prove it's false.
Does it?

Tablet computers

I use Dropbox and Google drive and the password is set up when you first use it. It's linked to your email account, so if you change your email password regularly you should be fine. But I'm sure they'll find a way to hack them. I don't put anything sensitive in there.

RE: What’s with all the road death?

Be glad we don't live in Russia, where the winter driving conditions are terrible! And the drivers are so bad, you can't get insurance unless you have a dash cam. (Allegedly.)

RE: morning

Nope. scold

RE: morning

I work at one of the few workplaces that has "Easter Tuesday" so had another looooong sleep-in this morning. Hehehehesleep

RE: What questions would you ask if

Yes, an O/S student is always a good idea. I couldn't get one because I'm too far from the uni. China, Malaysia, Singapore. India (female only I'd suggest). I work with these people and you couldn't do better.
I have to admit I like my privacy, but I manage to cope with my boarder since he has the bedroom up the front of the house and mine is down the back. I have an ensuite and he has the other bathroom near his room. We each mind our own business. If he wants to bring girls over that's his business, but I told him if it becomes a "live-in" arrangement then she'll have to pay rent.

Tablet computers

Yes, that'll be interesting to try. I'll wait until I become a bit more familiar with it before trying that one out.

Tablet computers

Yep, me too Curly. laugh

I'd like to try downloading some ebooks Serene, once I figure out how.

One problem I face is that it wants to know my Google mail account name (email address) but I have two, a work one, and my personal one. I'd like to be able to switch from one to the other as needed. So I've given it my work one as that's going to be the most useful and see how I go later.

Tablet computers

Ah yes, good thinking, Jem. I'm lucky my work pays for us to use their virus program for free, as they figure it's money well spent. Too many people were bringing viruses in on their memory sticks, etc.
Speaking memory sticks will they fade away to be replaced by "cloud" or "sky" storage?
I've yet to really understand what an App is. It would be good if I could get Excel and Word, but they'll be expensive I guess. Any free apps and what can they do?

Tablet computers

I got me a new toy today, a Nexus tablet computer.

Now I just have to figure out what you do with them. I've managed to connect to my home wifi.
Anyone have one of these or another tablet computer? Mine doesn't have 3G so can't connect to the internet via mobile, but that's fine with me as the cost can be exorbitant I've heard.

RE: science

Haha, not at all! Just bored enough to do a bit of Googling.
Oh, and a fascination with cults.devil

RE: science

Seems the cloning was in 2002, so 11 years ago now.

RE: science

Yes, I remember that. Nine years ago now. I've never really heard any more about it. That girl would be 9 now and fears about birth defects, etc could be settled.

RE: What questions would you ask if

Hi Merri, I've had a boarder now for about 3 years.
It's been great; a bit of company when I want it and some extra spending money. I also used to rent out houses and acted as landlord rather than use agents (expensive and incompetent).
Presumably you want to keep this as a tax-free cash transaction. (I do) I'm not sure of the legalities, but it may mean you can't have a legal contract. Nevertheless, I wrote up a one page contract stating what he gets, what he pays, start of tenancy, bond amount and also personal details, such as next of kin, former address, age,e tc.

I always ask for a reference and check it. Yes, they should definitely be working; low income and boredom don't auger well for a tenancy. Phone the employer to check he/she works there, how long, full time/part time, are they reliable?
Ask re hobbies, mainly to get them talking and gauge their personality, but also to find out if their hobby is heavy-metal jam sessions in the garage.
rolling on the floor laughing
Discuss rules during the interview again to gauge their reaction: eg, no loud music after XXPM, no parties, except BBQ's, don't nail pictures to the walls, keep the bathroom spotless, ditto kitchen.
Of course they'll tell you how much they'd love to pitch in with housework, vacuuming, and they even love gardening, but don't pay any attention to that. Just get the "vibe" of their personality; that's your best guide.
Look for signs of drug or alcohol addiction, obviously.
And don't undercharge. Let me know if you want a copy of the contract I use.
Good luck

RE: What’s with all the road death?

Hi Itsy, (just had to make up a nickname for you.) Very sorry about the loss you have suffered. Having 3 children who all drive I can imagine how heartbreaking it must be.
Difficult job you do, being a paramedic! I don't think I could do it, but someone has to I guess.teddybear

RE: What’s with all the road death?

Well if there is a reduction while at the same time the number of cars on the road increases and the number of kilometers each car travels on average each year increases then Hans and Wash must be doing something right. (Oh and all the other road traffic engineers and the cops.)

RE: Random Thoughts

Ok, so what is the latest government outrage that brought on this train of thought Mr. Gold?

RE: Two teens killed in Swanston Street

Yes, very sad. Brick walls give the impression of being very strong and solid, but they're not really, unless they are properly tied into cross walls or braced by timber framing.

RE: Alireza711

Welcome to the forums Alireza.

RE: Rolf Harris arrested

Ah yes, i searched again and found it. He has now been arrested and bailed

RE: Rolf Harris arrested

Correction: they aren't holding him; they questioned him last November, that's what this story is about.

RE: ahem....scrunch or fold?

Oh whew! blushing For a while I thought we were talking about something else. I always fold clothes as I put em into a suitcase, but at the other end of my trip, they come out scrunched!!?? So there you go a bit of both then really.

RE: The sound engineer - part 2

Very funny. Slightly? exaggerated of course. The first one was an example of reverse engineering.

Can I ask what the deal is with the bit.ly link? Then there are others theat show up as tinyurl. Is this some sort of system to "hide" the origin of a link or is it more about shortening the link to a more manageable length? This is the first time I have noticed that the link you click on is not the address it goes to. And how do you achieve that? confused

RE: Plans for Easter long weekend?

May have been because you put the link in bold

RE: Plans for Easter long weekend?

No exciting plans for the long weekend. Mine's longer than most as we get the Tuesday as well.
*Sleep in

*Drink lots of coffee - might just leave the espresso machine on all the time. coffee

*Mow lawns

*Sit at computer

*Take ex-step-children to the zoo

*Wash the car

That should just about do it.
yawn

RE: Plans for Easter long weekend?

For some reason your link wasn't working NL.
I've been in a few Meetup groups and they can be good. It's not specifically about singles meet-ups but can be groups of people all interested in the same thing, eg leaning Esperanto.
