Depends what you mean by a "doomsday" AA (and Gold71). by "doomsday" do you mean annihilation by nuclear bombs? Or a virulent epidemic among humans or a part of our food supply? (For example an epidemic wiping out all wheat crops in the world could be catastrophic.) Maybe an asteroid impact? A chemical spill affecting most of the world? Would any of these halve the world's population in 3 months? Don't know how you can be so specific? I guess the idea of the bunker is protection against roving bands of armed and dangerous people looking for a means of survival? If properly set up and equipped they might also protect against mild nuclear fall-out, chemicals, disease spores and space radiation. Expensive proposition though.
Crikey you've learned a lot about photography in a short time Merri. "ISO noise".... Care to explain wot that is? I'm just checking out my glass of port for clarity, composition and yes, even lighting comes into the enjoyment equation.
Yes it does almost sound like fun. I'm not on this site as much as I used to be, Happy. I guess I lost interest a bit. I've gradually started working longer hours, mainly for something to do. I was keen to get into online courses, (MOOCS) but couldn't sustain the interest and effort required.
At the 2nd National Men's Shed Conference in Manly during September 2007 Professor Barry Golding, Men’s Shed researcher from the University of Ballarat, stated in his key note address that “Men don’t talk face to face they talk shoulder to shoulder”. This drew unanimous mutterings of approval from all 350 delegates and the quote became the Australian Men's Shed Associations motto.
Men’s sheds play an important role in the community by providing meeting places where men can find social support and camaraderie.
The Men’s Shed concept was an Australian initiative from very humble beginnings; the idea has now spread internationally with a number of sheds being operated by health authorities in Ireland, England and New Zealand with other interested groups in North America and Japan.
We have a movement here Happy, they called it "The Men's Shed", a place for men, (especially in rural areas) to get together and "share" something. There was, (still is) a lot of depression and suicide among men in rural areas. I think it was started during the last drought, (is that right Wash?)
Not what I had imagined. I thought they were chock full of machines you could use whenever you felt like it, eg wood lathes, bandsaws, Mig/TIG, mills. Somewhere you could go to make stuff, learn some new skills or teach others.
Cruiser, you're not one of those smokers who thinks they are unique in loving their smokes, are you? I have met a few. There is so much bad publicity about "smelling like an ash tray", "disgusting smokes", etc, that some smokers think most other smoker must hate smoking, but they are just too addicted to quit. That's wrong; ALL smokers love smoking. That's another thing that makes it so hard to quit. Even many non-smokers like the smell of cigarette smoke, I know I do, probably because my dad used to smoke.
It's happening right now. I wonder if I can find a link to a live webcam, so I can see it without moving away from the computer? Nah who cares, seen 'em before.
Mate, you've opened a can of worms. Very many people have had experience with it. And quite a few have had a more-or-less lifelong experience. I think it is good for people to hear about the experiences others have had and to realise that they are not alone. If just one person can relate to just one suggestion made here in this thread and apply and have success with it then your posts have been worthwhile. No, well-done on raising this issue and don't let it just slip down the page!
Hi Track 16. Yes, I've had to deal with it all my life. How do I manage it? Tried everything, including medications. Have not found any silver bullet - yet.
Hahahahaha! I can't disagree with your premise "Stems from a lack of self-love." I think that could be true for many. But to say "Love yourself and it will go away" is just counter-productive. The depressed person already hates themselves. They can't ever succeed at "just loving themselves", even if they might try. Leading them to be confirmed in their original self loathing. Love yourself - that simple! How is that simple????
Oh no, I've had mine for 3 days and I've had enough. I've got aching joints, fever, dizziness. No nose, throat or lung issues. His wasn't like that was it?
Well, Judy, I don't know what "insightful" commentator wrote that drivel and I can't be bothered googling it. This line is a doozy:
"Robin must not have liked the direction his life was going in, whatever that was. But something caused him enough pain to end his life" Makes it sound cheap and trivial. Hmm I should've turned left back there, not right - oh well that's it, I'm gonna knock myself off. And the way the writer portrays his wife as cold and uncaring, just because she didn't check on him. The whole piece is written on assumptions and guesswork, cobbled together with "NFI". (look that up.) Your original premise was that, "divorce can make you depressed." Of course, I don't think anyone would disagree with you there. I guess in your original post you made it sound like the thought of parting with yet more money was just too much for him to bear. And that was just an insensitive assumption.
RE: Happy Birthday Miss Merri
Happy much belated birthday Merriweather and some great pics in this thread - the Torrens ones, etc.
