9 weeks for 500 million?

Bankrupt businessman Seán Quinn Snr has been sentenced to nine weeks in prison for contempt of court.
Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne said she may grant a stay on the order pending a Supreme Court appeal and will hear submissions on this later today.
Lawyers for Mr Quinn said they needed to consult with him to see if he wants to begin his sentence today or appeal.
Last June, the judge found him in contempt of court orders prohibiting interference with the Quinn's €500m International Property Group.

So he robs 500 million from a bank the tax payer is currently the only shareholder of and he gets 9 weeks!
I would do 9 weeks for half a billion, wouldn't you?

This country really is an absolute joke.

I dont care who he is. There is no proof she was a British agent. And what info would she have been able to give to the Brits. She was just a housewife. She also had a son locke up by the Brits....so if she was an agents would she not have made them release him. It is IRA propaganda with no basis in fact and absolute no proof.




Maybe in the future but the Republic could not afford the 6 countoes at the moment and the people in the 6 counties could not afford to become part of the Republic. That is the hard economic truth at the moment. It is just not economically viable for both. The Brits would love to be rid of the 6 Counties though...it costs them a fortune.

You want to move on from Jean and Violence because it doersn't suit the modern Republican to remember things that happened in the past.

And economically the people of the North would have to have their heads tested if they wanted to join the Republic at the moment. We could not afford to give them half of the resources supplied by the British State.

How does that justify the killings of more innocents. Thats messed up thinking. The Brits probably were involved in the Dublin / Monaghan bombings. But thats no excuse for the IRA to plant bombs in shopping centres, business districts, pubs or on Main streets. And the worst thing is they were supposed to be representing the ordinanry people of N. Ireland...but that's exactly who they were killing with a lot of their bombs...No British Soldiers, No RUC, No British politicans...just innocent ordinary folk from N. Ireland.



Not how many innocents were killed...how many innocents were targated? None! They were fighting the British Army....hence digging trenches and setting themselves up in buildings. And I doubt very much if you could get a figure on how many each side killed that were innocent.

You keep talking about 254 civilans killed during 1916. You cant tell me who killed them? It could have been the Brits for all I know. But what I do know is they were not targeted by the men of 1916. They did not target civilans.

Yes they believed in armed struggle but they believed in targeting the British Army and Police. They did not kill women and children aor plant bombs where civilans would be killed. They did not shoot innocent Pizza delivery men to further their cause.

Its not innocent people getting caught in the middle when you plant a bomb in a supermarket carpark or on a main street on a busy Saturday afternoon, or in a pub on a Friday night. Thats targeting civilans.

I know it didn't. I know about the uprisings of the 1600,s and 1700,s. But they were hundreds of years ago. Totally different times. The only ones we can really compare to modern thinking or the modern era are the 1916 uprising and war of independance.

The men who gained our freedom...the men of 1916 and 19-21 did not target civilans. They did not kill innocent women and children and did not plant bombs indiscriminately without care for child or pregnant woman.

Agent of the state???? Have you proof of that? That is just IRA propaganda so they would not look like absolute scum they are for taking a MOTHER away from her children, torturing her, killing her and burying the body so the family had no closure. Disgusting.

Yes. They did not target owmen and children. They did not plant bombs in public areas with a view to kill innocent people. They did not kidnap, torture and kill innocent Mothers for just giving comfort to a dying boy.

I slag off ANY MAN who attcaks innocent people and murders and mames to further a political agenda. None of the forefathers I talked about targeted innocent people. They did not plant bombs in shapping centres or business areas. They did not plant car bombs in main streets that kill women and children and they certainly did not kidnap, murder and bury mothers.

And considering the gov and EU want to kake cuts I would say it's acurate as it puts them in a bad position.

Well I would make sure there are no cuts to social welfare at all. That is no cuts to the basic rate or any of the other sundry expenses they get like fuel allowance and rent allowance.

I would stop paying childrens allowance to any household that has over 100k a year going in and I would re-direct that money to those most in need. I would also make sure the multi nationals pay their 12.5% tax which is not happening. They are paying between 4-6%. Even if we make them pay the 12.5% they agreed it is still way less that any other Euro counrty so they wont up and leave. This would raise another 4 billion which I would direct to those most in need too.

I said discriminating against a child because they are not from a two parent family and telling people who are not in a relationship if they have kids they wont have the same rights as others kids is like the 3rd reich. As thats what your friend was proposing.

Your cousin? Oh I am wrong then. If he is its a mistake. The MAX a single person can get in shared accom is 170 on a total rent of 300. Its on welfare.ie and you were also given the link by another poster above. So your cousin is either a liar or its a mistake.

A single person can only pay 300 MAX rent a month. You are not reading the website right. They dont allow a single person to live in a place that charges 430. No single person can get above 170 a month rent allowance. And nobody gets 300 I can assure you of that!

Shows how little you know. The 300 is the max rent they are allowed be charged by the landlord!!! The max the welfare will pay to that 300 is 170. I suggest you google it again.

And you are saying you could pay rent, TV, Internet, Electric, Gas, Bin Charges and buy all the food you need on 188 a week? There is no way you would do it.

Saving for a rainy day would not have made a jot of a difference to most families as this recession has been going on 4 years now and there is no end in sight. They would have had to be earning enough to save huge money. There is a difference between a rainy day and a biblical storm.

Instead of banging on about welfare payments and people struggling on welfare why not ask yourself could you survive on 188 euro a week plus rent allowance. The max rent allowance a single person can get is 170 a month.

I know I could not survive on that. And I thank my lucky stars every day I dont have to.

Have you ever tried to be financially prudent on welfare? I haven't and I thank my lucky stars every day I haven't. I bet you haven't either but you seem to be an expert on budgeting your welfare payment when you never actaully were in the unfortunate position to have to do it.

Through on goal? Really? Were you watching the game? Ferdinand was coming across and would have got to the ball before Torres...thats why he DECIDED to go down. Yes there was contact but he could have stayed up and he certainly was not through on goal.

Chelsea won the league a few years ago at Oldd Traffor with a goal by Drogba. He was at least 4 yards offside but it stood and they were champions. Thats football. Swings and roundabouts. Can you tell me Liverpool never got a penalty that never was, never got an offside goal, never had refs decisions go their way. Thats football.

She may have said they were out of recession but she didn't say the figures keep improving because they only have been out of recession 3 months accrding to yesterdays figures. And those 3 months included the Olympics and the Queens Diamond Anniversary thing. YTD I doubt they are out of recession but the government has to big up any decent figures. The real figures will come at the start of 2013 when we see if their economy grew in 2012.
