Remember Celtic deities? Teutates, Taranis and Hesus, yes, that's just the character Jesus was made up from at the Council of Nicaea. And Christ?...derived from Krishna.
None of that stuff can impress a critical thinker.
Studying historical facts is interesting and opens your mind... when we study the "facts of religion" over the last say 5000 years we can clearly see how betrayed we've been!
In addition those guys found out how comfortable it is to "know" something which others don't....they could often make a nice living from it including mental power over the rest of the crowd. And later on it almost became a solid "business".
It would seem to me very unwise of her to fly to Turkey alone.
She doesn't speak the local language, does most likely not have any cultural understanding or specific background on that country...and she is in love...a dangerously blinding mixture.
NDEs just feel very real to those who have experienced them. In fact they are fictional illusions defined as the perception of objects or scenes that are genuinely not there to all but a single observer, such as those induced by schizophrenia or a hallucinogen, more properly called hallucinations.
This is the “clinical reality” based on objective evidence, no matter what the involved person may “feel”...the human brain is not entirely reliable.
Ever heard of the body-swap effect that convinces people they inhabit a different body from their own? The experiment, in which volunteers were tricked into perceiving the bodies of other people as their own offers insights into how the brain constructs the sense of self. It also promises practical implications for treating body image disorders such as anorexia, for designing robotic technology and remote surgery tools, even for developing better virtual reality games.
No big deal buddy, you may easily become a victim of your own brain. Better to know this in advance.
NDEs are no real experiences, not spiritual voyages, but a function of the dying brain. All brains, regardless of where in the world they come from, die in the same way. And that is why all NDEs have essential core elements which are the same. It is not because the dying person is traveling toward a beautiful afterlife, but because the neurotransmitters in the brain are shutting down and creating the same lovely ILLUSIONS for all who are in a near-death situation.
Bible and "proof"? Ha, ha, it's just a central dogma of all fundamental Christians that the Bible is without error. They teach this conclusion by reasoning that god cannot be the author of false meaning and he cannot lie.
If written by a perfect being, then it must not contradict itself, as a collection of books written by different men at different times over many centuries (what it actually represents!) would be expected to contradict each other.
Just a small sample on the "seeing of God":
"... I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." -- Genesis 32:30
"No man hath seen God at any time..."-- John 1:18
And there are many examples like this. That’s almost typical for Christianity.
They don’t really know when (not the day, not the month and not even the year) their Jesus (who was named as such over 300 years later at Nicaea) was born but found it practical to link it up with the famous Roman date of “Deus Sol Invictus” which also fitted nicely with a similar “Holy Day” of the other pagans of that time.
Makes it easier to switch, ehh ?
Based on such a “solid ground” you do not even need to discuss the other key statements like virgin birth, angels, paradise, god, reincarnation etc.pp.
Your Bible is a conglomerate of myths...far away from any scientific theorie
Hi Trish, hope you are fine. Where did Al go ? (BnaturAl)
nope, Germany does not take part in EU-Millions, it is the German State Lottery.
As I'm in good old D right now I will play as well so that all of you have a better chance for a nice party. And it would not be in Dubai (not the right place for western ladies) but in Marbella, Spain.
p.s.: Hi Sommer, could you play Euro-Millions from Austria for me? I can't do this from within Germany.
You need at least to travel (if not living) abroad to really understand and tolerate.
The current US passport population only stands at 18pct of US adults! Source: European Travel Commission. The top cities for passport ownership are: New York, 38pct; San Francisco, 37pct; Miami/Fort Lauderdale, 33pct; West Palm Beach, 31pct; San Diego, 29pct; Los Angeles, 27pct; Washington DC, 27pct. Source: US Office of Central Statistics.
When you only stay inside your own country your view will remain limited...and most likely biased. Ignorance maybe a side-effect of the media state we in the 'developed' world live in. We exist in a comfortable place where we can mentally subsist on 100pct entertainment rather than choosing to broaden our mindscape...US television has planted its influence everywhere...
Also, in my experience the U.S. education system has a very narrow scope, with primary level history, geography and politics limited almost solely to a U.S. focus.
Mark’s celery advice makes a lot of sense, go for it.
But to stop definitively is a mind thing. For me it was pneumonia some 15 years ago that kind of convinced me to stay away from poisoning my respiratory system. I stopped over night and never started again.
Well, technically we are all born agnostics, anything beyond that is belief or opinion….unless you're a critical thinker…
then you KNOW (and there's absolutely no "preaching" necessary) through historical evidence that all these religious stories are made up by purpose. The history of the last few thousand years is well documented and holds more than enough prove that "god" is man-made in order to rule the masses; dictators, kings and despots made and used/misused gods for control.
Seeing all the work that Al invests here (apparently attempts to little avail) just to get the message of "start thinking" over to others makes me wonder why most of them never bother to even start, of course with some exemptions.
It looked promising when Mike began to read Richard Dawkins…but will he catch on?
RE: Which is the best foreign language after english??
I'd go for French, the language of diplomacy and international relations...bonne chance
