The most awesome woman I know lives in a different country. If she and I were to have a relationship, it would be worth the move. Not everyone is awesome enough to relocate to another country for, but it can happen.
No society can carry the burden of the entire world's poor.
A lot of people here have sympathy for those from other countries who are looking for a better life, but forcing American tax payers to pay the bill for a limitless number of handouts isn't the answer.
Immigration is still legal, by the way, but people have to get permission before moving to ANY country.
England might be the luckiest nation. They lost their land here when it become the US, but they also lost all America's problems at the same time. Very lucky.
In World War 2, they probably would've been f'd without US support, but then Japan attacked and the US decided to start helping fight the Axis Alliance. They were lucky then too.
They chose not to use Euros, and I think their money is stronger because of it. More luck there.
There's a growing need in America to have a pop icon as a leader, and people like to elect popular idiots to lead, but England doesn't have that problem, since they were lucky enough to end up with both an iconic leader AND a functional leader, allowing those things to both happen without interfering with each other.
Even unrefined accents there sound great. More luck.
"Luck of the Irish"? I think Ireland's luck has been rubbing off on its neighbors. haha
"That's not a knife. THIS is a knife." - Crocodile Dundee "P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney" - Finding Nemo "Put another shrimp on the barby." - cliche phrase used for impersonations "G'day, mate." - also a cliche phrase used for impersonations

- Being subject to one's environment doesn't necessarily mean harmonious living. - Being a master of one's environment doesn't necessarily mean destruction of one's environment. - No group of people is truly indigenous. - Living like an animal doesn't give people special insights into the future. - The earth is a rock with stuff living on it. It's not a sentient entity, and has no will. It is like any other thing: a common asset. - The author of this post implies technologically advanced people are backward, and living incorrectly. Still uses the internet.
Don't be a hippie. Those of us who actually understand environmental preservation can take care of the planet without your dumb opinions. Thanks.
If he's already saving her money, and providing her with a better option, then his overall affect on the situation is positive, and no further compensation is necessary. He could still help her further, but he should know that anything beyond what's necessary is a gift, and gift giving is a whole different situation. It's an art, and is a game one plays by different rules than the game of compensation.
No debate will ever reach any kind of conclusion, or be productive in any way, unless it clearly addresses each individual point separately, not confusing them into one big blurry mess.
Romney understood that, which is why he was better in the debates.
I mention that now because we're making a whole lot of fuss for nothing in these political threads. However, if you do want to make something productive out of this, (a) be more organized, and (b) state disagreeing points as two opposing points of view until a solution is found for a particular point.
Obama's work record: - blames Bush for debt, then doubles the rate we borrow money - blames Bush for recession, nevermind that banks were making bad loans and helped crash the housing market - claims credit for killing bin laden, says other people can't take credit for building a business because someone else did some of the work - 100% of congress voted no to his budget proposals, twice. They never agree on anything, but they all agree he sucks at making budgets - most doctors agree that obamacare sucks, and some are quitting their jobs to get away from it - he said obamacare would not be a tax. It's a tax. - his economic policies have resulted in the first ever downgrading of the nation's credit rating
Seriously, who the hell voted for this guy? Do you guys even pay attention to what he's doing? Are you so mesmerized by the color of his skin (OMFG, he's the first president with high levels of melanin) that you forget he sucks at his job? You guys brought this problem on yourselves.
Exercise is a perfect replacement for alcohol. Both reduce bad cholesterol, and exercising release chemicals which reduce the sensation of pain and improve one's mood, just like alcohol.
The difference between them, however, is that alcohol causes damage to nearly every organ in the human body, whereas exercise improves strength and endurance.
I should warn you though, that muscles act like sponges. If you're switching from drinking to exercising, the release of alcohol by-products from your muscles may actually make you feel sick at first, especially if you do very intense exercise. Don't let that get you down. It's normal, and goes away relatively quickly.
If you still feel like something is missing after switching from alcohol to exercise, remember that staying sociable is a vital part of anyone's way of life. Some people try to use drinking as a substitute, but keeping up with good people is the only thing that really works for that.
If carbon can be extracted from the atmosphere and isolated, it can be used for carbon-based applications. Regardless of impact on the environment, we need to find a way to capture that carbon so it can be used. I've read articles about carbon being used to make superior batteries, and stronger-than-metal materials.
Not putting carbon into the atmosphere also has non-environment benefits. Using electricity from solar and nuclear power can reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, and reduce energy costs.
We can reduce carbon emissions, but we don't necessarily need to do it to prevent climate change. So the argument about climate change is possibly irrelevant.
Thanks to the nature of our global economy, if the US ever goes down, the whole world may go down with it, or at the very least the quality of life will significantly decrease everywhere else where there is a developed economy. We're all connected. Nobody stands alone.
Being single is okay for a little while, but staying single is not good for people. People who find a long term, healthy relationship actually live longer. It is better for people to find a relationship that works.
If you believe in evolution, then you believe we all descend from one ancestor, typically going by the name "lucy".
If you believe in creation, then you believe two people were made, who then populated the earth.
Even if you somehow believe that a large population of unrelated individuals is how the human race started (not possibl), then we'd still all be related, due to the inevitable connecting of all people through reproduction.
Regardless of personal opinion, there is only one possibility here: we're all related somehow.
Obama: - horrible financial record - caught telling lies, constantly - caught insulting people, intentionally, in public - associated with anti-Americans - got his dreams from his father, an outspoken anti-American
Romney: - excellent financial record - supported by fact checkers - insulted people with bad character, but blamed for insulting good people, and is hated for essentially being too honest about the nature of bad people in our country. sorry victims and takers, you know it's true. - works well with both dominant parties - gets his dreams from the people who actually built this country (yes, they did build it)
I believe the antonym of atheist is theist. You could also be more specific, and use words like monotheist or polytheist.
My opinion regarding theism, in case you'd like to know, could be summarized with the quote, "I think, therefore I am."
The consciousness you observe when making that observation is something no sum of physical parts could amount to. Placing carbon and other elements next to each other won't make those particles aware of anything, despite their proximity, or beneficial arrangement. Recording information in a brain won't create that kind of awareness, it's just a recording. Running electric current through that system to make muscles move won't create awareness. Only something more than the sum of those parts can make that happen. The human body, as an extension of the brain, is only the observed, not the observer. Something more, the observer himself, has to be added in order to account for awareness.
