more like your dad has been connected with you in spirit all along and knows of your life on earth. then at that point in time for reason unknown he visit you both in that way. . :)
outside of dream /vision experience,.....I know that mind exist still in other realm after we pass on. it is with us in spirit form, it doesn't actually die with the body. I know this because of an out of body experience I had as a teen. other people have had ones somewhat similar to mine....yet diff in many ways. .
I wont go into that now....it is entirely different experience to dreams /visions.
science or others may have the notion that the mind is what the brain does. therefore , they think that when brain dies ..the mind is gone. I can assure you that is not the case. I have been here...there....and back for now. the mind functioned fine in both realms. except its far more heightened awareness on other side. that I think is because it is not functioning through the physical brain/flesh. ...among other things.

I find it very interesting that your dad knew who your son was ..his grandson, and appeared to him in dream/vision. that means in spirt form are aware of whats happening down on earth. :)
so your dad appeared to you in your dream. then he appeared later to your son...his grandson in dream. and even spoke to him.
had your son seen that pic of your dad before , or any pic of him. ???
if not …..its even more interesting because your son would not have known his grandad , ..yet his grand dad knew him. then appeared to him in dream. :)

its like dreams sorting out stuff in its own way and without the imput /influence of conscious mind. because , conscious thought get stuff so wrong at times . look at the neg state of the world around us , even individual lives due to bad decisions of conscious thinking. eyes wide open... and f-cking things up. it gets stuff right too etc, but it gets stuff very wrong . perhaps dreams are cutting out the danger of neg conscious influence as they seek resolve issues in subconscious fashion. that's why dreams go beyond the boundaries of conscious thought n reason . anything can happen in a dream .
then when it has stuff resolved in its own way via dream, it then informs / instructs the conscious mind. problem is of course when it flips back from dream ,the conscious mind does not always understand.. it doesn't quiet get the msg . kind of like person who doesnt understand a parable story. they can only see the literal meaning and therefore think it just make no sense . they think the content of literal dream story don't / cant happen and that all they focus on. they don't get the other meaning presented in their awake mode. so they just forget or dismiss them and give them no further thought.
nevertheless, even consciousness may not understand , I believe dreams informs it somehow and influences it regardless, turns it around in right direction..
dreams are a big part of human experience .im sure they just don't construct and reveal themselves for no reason. but understanding them in their formats is not easy.
a good aspect of dreams for me is that they are free from the control / influence of the conscious mind. the conscious mind if it had an imput would say you cant talk to the birds or via versa...because birds don't speak. it would bring in checks n balances ….and f-ck up the dream. then you would have a different dream. missing out on subconscious dream. in dreams you can do anything..even fly. lol.
i chat to characters in dreams all the time. and do things outside the control of the conscious mind. im not fenced in by it in dream time. i find it refreshing. :)
the conscious mind lives and acts in a different world. let it function there. eyes wide open .lol with all its flaws and uses. it is usefull in that context. it gets us around etc.
it does look back on dreams of course.....yet sometimes dreams have a lesson to teach it.. its not as if a conscious /awake mind knows everything. lol . look at way world is for the worse and f-cked up decisions conscious minds make in its world. wide awake...lol but it does have its good side too.
anyway , i don't want conscious mind control of dreams because then it not a free unregulated dream.

regards nightmarish dreams im glad you don't have them that often now. i used only have those type as a kid. later they changed and resolved themselves. i would basically defeat the baddies or monsters as my dreams mysteriously altered their course as times went by. i would never be fearfull of anything in the dream then and would call it out and confront it and defeat it . after awhile i just stopped having those kind of dreams.
practically all my dreams now are nice ones.:) in dreams ones mind comes up with stuff that you would never think of or be able to create in a conscious state. i think its an interesting part of humans lives. if you go to see a movie ..consider all the people it took to put it together in their conscious state....and how long it took them . yet, the unconscious mind can put whole story together in very short time soon as you fall asleep. also you can watch the dream story and be aware of it , and also be part of it. yet theres no conscious effort in the making of it. also...its a brand new and different story / production every night , or whenever one dreams.
in fact im sure the dog is having dreams as well. i saw him numerous times asleep , ..kicking his legs as if he is dreaming about running /chasing . then he is attempting barking in sleep also. . it wouldn't surprise me if lots of difference kinds of animals dream , even the birds perhaps. its a major part of life experience.
yet people don't fully appreciate or understand yet what they are really about. they just take them for granted. , in a half blind kind of way.

in this dream i had as above. it never occurred to me in dream state that i could just collect the cash and then have the landscape as well. lol . interesting the difference with the conscious mind. I dreamt I was somewhere unknown and the scenery was great. there were mountains n valleys, rivers n lakes , pine trees., herds of deer were grazing in the grassland plain. I was on a hillside lying down overlooking this on a sunny day .then at some point I lay back and closed my eyes to listen to wildlife sounds , birds . I was thinking this is the life . anyway what happened next was ….when I opened my eyes everything was covered in cash. . I couldn't even see a blade of grass . I was pissed off about that. then the cash notes started falling from the sky and covered me up to my neck. then a voice said its for you if you want it. then I replied f.f.s. of course I don't want it get it off of me. lol .I was brushing it off me and saying stop stop stop… i want the landscape back . then i closed my eyes again because i thought maybe the landscape is in my mind and i be back to it again. well it was and then dreams being dreams ….i started chatting to the deer.lol.. i said do you know whats after happening out there in your habitat ?, somebody has caused cash to fall out of the sky and destroyed the whole place , its gone. then the deer replied ..yes we heard about that and that it upset you badly. we will help you . then they said open your eyes again and look outside. i opened my eyes and there was a storm and all the cash was being blown back up into the sky the landscape then was revealed again in all its glory wildlife an all. i was delighted . i then thanked the deer and nature for helping me and just woke up . lol

aaahhh that nice dream about helping the foal and mum. :) a little elaboration im sure would have been even more interesting .i like horses a lot so resonate more with me. i used to work with horses many moons ago. ride out in early morning gallops. brought memories back.

I used to have bad dreams when I was a kid. …...but mostly all my dreams are pleasant now.
I also had the 2 type dreams you mentioned when I was a kid. :( but somehow when I got older the dream just reversed the ending. I used to dream like you of being chased and I would run away but my legs would continue to slip n slide..until the point I felt like I would be caught by some monster . then I would just wake up in fright n sweat just before being caught.:( but then few years later somehow the dream changed at the ending . I would dream of being chased as before , but then I get angry at idea of being chased by somebody to harm me ….so I would be running as a plan...then I would slow down to allow the chaser to close . then I would suddenly turn around and try to grab him, lol. it continue then with me chasing them and they just disappear into the woods or somewhere. then I would just wake up fine. :) I stopped having the chasing dream altogether after a while. your dream brought back memories of such dreams.
the same thing happened with the falling from heights dream as a kid. I would be falling and just wake up frightened before I hit the ground. but then later that dream somehow reversed itself also. instead when I fell from height I started to fly along and realised I could fly. lol . I would then go places flying around looking down over the landscapes . .streets..and cities etc. it turned into very nice pleasant dream . I would then just wake up fine :) in tn the dream also I used to wonder why nobody else was up here flying around. lol ..I used to think maybe they don't know that they can fly. haha
I did have people I knew passed away over time parents n siblings...and others. I don't know other significance of dreams. but I do feel that they have duel meanings...literal in relation to story. figurative in relation to other meaning ..info we may not fully understand.

I dream most nights and recall them in the morning. most are pleasant ones. :) I dream in black n white ..or in colour. sometimes I don't know that I am dreaming, other times I am aware that I am dreaming and can direct them in diff directions,....or watch them go their own way knowing that I know im dreaming. I like dreams and ponder on them in morning before I get up.:)
I dreamt that I was looking out my bedroom window. it had snowed... which is rare in my area. the whole landscape was covered in snow . I was thinking how beautiful it looked . .admiring it. then after few minutes suddenly a flock of white doves arose up out of the snow. I didn't know beforehand that they were there because they were camaflaged beneath the snow. anyway as they flew up into the air snowflakes fell from their wings . I thought ,,wow ...that's even more beautiful scene. they were then flying about above the snow with the snowfall falling from them . then when the snow stopped falling they all landed on a telephone wires outside my window. anyway dreams being dreams..i asked them ...who are ye ? why did you all land on the telephone wire outside my window ??? they replied in unison , we are your friends. we came to see you. lol then I said ...ahh ok so,...it was lovely to see you .
