Moses, sorry we hijacked your thread. I do appreciate your kind manner and your willingness to discuss your beliefs. Although I don't share the same beliefs, you are a testament to your people and your religion that are good people who share your faith.
I did not join CS nor the forums to get into arguments. That is the problem, you say it is a losing argument, but I wasn't trying to argue at all. I was discuss my beliefs with someone else and actually was enjoying discussing the differences until you jumped in. It is amazing to me how many angry and bitter atheists there are. Why would I want to be one?
For those of you who want to talk in a rational and calm manner, I'm willing to discuss religion. But name calling such as weak minded or telling people to grow up simply because they don't agree with you in unkind. I don't feel I have to defend by beliefs. I willing to discuss them and compare notes, but I have the right to believe what I want, just like you. It is easy to attack another belife system, without having to defend your own.
I was watching a movie and it mentioned the Nephilim's and the bible verse, so I had to look it up for myself. I've been wanting to find out more about this, but I've been so busy with my college classes. I am finished with my schooling, so now maybe I will have more time to research things that I find particularly meaningful.
Unless I've seen some really tall bones, I don't think I would take it literally. It may have seemed like they were that tall.
Genesis 6:1-4 tells us, "When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years." The Nephilim were on the earth in those days -- and also afterward -- when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown."
I've been trying to find out exactly who the sons of God was.
It is a history book. Many of the stories were about people of the past and the choices they made. God did not condone everything they did. Just like king David had multiple wives. Someone asked Jesus what he thought about it and he said it was because of the hardness of their hearts that it was so, but it was not that way in the beginning.
I'm not say what happend to the Jews was ok. Get real. When I'm talking about the common good, and the ten commandments, the laws are in place so that everyone can live peacefully.
Thou shall not kill Thou shall not steal Thou shall not commit adultry
Don't you see how your actions can affect other? We are not in an enclosed envionment.
I'm not going to discuss anything with you if you're going to get hot headed about this. It is your free will to be an atheist, but don't try to push your beliefs off on me. Then they say Christians are bad.
Were they that tall? I don't always take the bible so literally. Just like the earth being made in seven days, it is more like seven periods of time. Darn, all the tall guys are gone, I missed my chance. lol
It seems like Christians can't say/do anything without getting in trouble. Can't mention God in the schools, you must say Happy Holidays at work and not Merry Christmas. Can't have Christmas Trees at the airports. Kind of takes the fun out of the holidays. What is kind of funny though is that the Christmas tree is more pagan than Christian. ;)
LOL - Sounds like you believe in String Theory. Many scientist don't. If you want to watch a really good dvd on multi universes, watch the dvd "The Elegant Universe." It is really really interesting, really.
Well, I've never been much of a bible thumper, I believe that Christianity is based on free will. Of course there have been Christians who have tried to push it, but I don't think it is the Christian way. I will tell you what I believe if you are interested in listening, but God has to work in your heart, not me. I can only encourage you to seek the truth.
Seriously, it just feels awkward when hugging or spooning. Kissing can be difficult with extreme height differences.
I had a co-worker who told me that she would pass out when her husband kissed her because he was really tall and she was really short, and having her neck bent back restricted the blood flow to her head. I'm sure it was flattering to him, he probably thought he was the best kisser. lol
God gave everyone a free will. The commandments were not meant to control and restrict people, but were meant for the common good. Mankind from the beginning wanted to do things their way. That was the biggest temptation, to be wise like God. We do have the wisdom of good and evil, but what do we often choose? Doesn't the problem of our society come from everyone having their own way, doing their own thing?
Christianity is not blind faith.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." (Matt. 7:7-8)
I do believe in evolution to a certain point. I belive that God started the ball rolling and made it so that things change and adapt to their evironment, but I still believe in intelligent design. I was holding my little nephew over the Thanksgiving holiday, and as I was looking at him sleep with his tiny finger curled around mine, I could not help but be amazed by the miracle of life. To me, it is hard believing that everything came from a tiny compressed ball in space that has always been there, and then decided to explode after eons of time. I look a life in itself, and see the miracle. Why are some things alive and some are just rock and dust with no life force. How can intellegent life spring from nothing?. How can that life force spring from nothing?
RE: MIRACLES OF THE QUR'AN
Thank you.
