U.S B29 Crash Site

This wreckage is less than a couple of miles off
one of the most popular long distance paths
in the uk.
Many thousands of people have walked by here
not aware of its presence.

Went out for a walk today to visit the crash site of a
US military B29
The plane crashed in 1948, the pilot thought he was over
Lincolnshire, a flat area of the UK, in fact he was over the
Dark Peak.
The cloud level was down to 2000' and Jame's Thorn on
Bleaklow below him rises to 2059'.
All 13 of the American servicemen sadly perished on the
desolate mountain.
There are in fact 55 crash sites in the Dark Peak area,
this being on of the better preserved ones.
Not far from this spot are two other crash sites, one
a Lancaster bomber, the other a Dakoter.
Very little remains of these two aircraft.

For anyone who is interested i have posted pics of the
site on my profile.
