Actually, I was in Cambodia (as an "observer" ) prior to Nam breaking out in complete insanity. "OUR" government denied we were even there until the late 80"s. No, I had seen enough & have no desire to return.
You also mentioned something about those returning having normalized lives.. You have NEVER heard me claim to be "normal"..
I simply take life with a grain of salt. At 70, I have had many experiences in life, some good, some not. I also fully realize every problem I have ever had, I played a role in creating it. I understand there are going to be consequences for the choices we make. I look at my past experiences & choices, I ask myself if I learned anything.
Now at the near end of life as I know it, I sit back and watch so many make the same stupid choices I had made. I offer my experiences, but just like me when I was younger, what could "Old Fart" have to offer that would benefit me? The older I became, the smarter my dad became.
I really am a soft hearted old Geezer, and I really do have empathy for the younger folks. Also, I am grateful I will not be around to see the suffering my granddaughters will endure because of the sorry choices some make today.
I learned the ins & outs of the M-1 rifle, the .30 cal machine gun, how to properly slit a throat without the enemy making noises warning others, how to demolish buildings, bridges, railroads, etc.
To bad many do not remember what may have happened had the U.S. intervened. Not to mention the way we were treated upon return.
And, if other countries did not offer such a threat to the world, we could stay home. Personally I could care less if the Middle East nuked each other.
The money problem-----to bad politicians (Libs) think we have to give billions to other countries instead of investing in Americans.
BUT............... When you factor in the ones that have simply stopped looking (because O'Bozo has NOT created jobs) and the UNDERemployed, the rate is closer to 11%..
