I know someone from this site to whom this very thing happened. He was stranded in England due to the volcanic ash fiasco. He met an Irish lassie because of that, who is now the love of his life.
It was very much a positive for him to MISS those original flights, so the universe does work in strange ways.
Thanks englishelegance. That would have been nice, to be an extra day in the Big Apple, one of my favourite big cities. None of that would faze me. But spare the thought of me missing a flight back to Italy. It would screw me around for my return back to Oz.
I just woke up a short time ago, with all this information swimming around my sleep deprived mind. One thing I couldn't help thinking is that 2 days after my scheduled departure from London, I'm due to fly back to Aussie Land. It's beginning to sound all a bit too hectic.
Thanks for explaining about Tees, though, patmac. Another thing I've learned.
Thanks for all your help. A great site you provided. So far, if it comes to pass, the winds are blowing Summer and me to Scotland. Hadn't planned on that.
Hope all is well with you in NY. Enjoy the rest of your day.
I need the flight for the 14th though. My very first post was incorrect. It would be good if I could change the dates to 17th, and shorten my stay. I've contacted the online travel site about it, so hopefully I will hear soon.
Not on your nelly, bodie!!! Not after 24 hrs flying time from Oz, then training it all over Italy, to get to Milan airport, then flying to London...then having to do it all again on the return. No flippin way am I doing the coach trick!
Well, Tule, you and me the same. I have never been to Britain, other than Gatwick airport in transit once. As I have said, I too, have been used to cheap and really good rail travel, in Italy(quite different in Australia, where travel costs are often prohibitive for regular holiday making unless you catch a red eye flight!
It's now become clear that if we don't call the whole thing off, I will need to spend that night in London itself. Honestly, my last 2 trips to Italy have been frenzied because I chose to include way too much. Anyway, this doesn't just affect me, it imposes on poor Summer. She doesn't need the pressure either, and I'm not about to let that happen to either of us.
Thanks for your latest imput, though. It's really helped. Someone also sent me an email with a really useful link, so I will explore that option, too. So if we can find a workable solution, fine, otherwise I will just hang out in Italy the whole time, and Summer can see about meeting me there. Shopping in Florence isn't half bad. Pashminas for $6euros is pretty good. I'm wearing one right now, and it's the softest thang.
Yes, I've booked train tickets online in Italy, and it is easy. A few things to explore before Summer and I decide what to do. Still time.
I flew Ryanair in '08 when I went to Dublin. The flight was delayed a few hours from Milan, otherwise all was fine. My poor friend (from CS) picked me up from the airport and it was about 1.30am when we got out! Now I hear they strap you to the wings, or something like that, so I've booked with a different airline this time.
No way am I lugging my laptop around, so I won't be bothering about skyping. I can check emails on my mobile phone, so that's all I will need. I can always use the mobile phone if I need to make calls, though global roaming rates are dreadful, and sim cards/providers can be incompatible with one's phone. I went through all this fun on my last 2 trips to the EU, jeez
I would do that as I did before. But I told you with my new plan, calls are no longer part of the $400 monthly credit limit. They would be if it was plain and simple pre-paid. Nuts!
So, you had better get used to answering your landline just over the coming weeks. Pleaseeeeeeeeee.
I've booked to meet SummerUK, Milan-London return, yay!...
