But there are some who certainly use fear to help keep their followers in line.
Keep in mind that not all religions function the same way.
In my mind, what's important is that a person has faith regardless of what religion it is, and that they embrace that faith in good times as well as in not so good times. That would indicate to me that fear is not their motivation for following a particular belief.
For a very first date - coffee would be good. No plans for after, so if things go well perhaps you can spend a bit more time together. If the date is a dud - then at least you've had a good cup of coffee.
I see myself as sitting on the fence for this one. I am not a believer in his predictions nor am I a disbeliever. There are just too many little bits and pieces that can be arranged into his predictions which I found to be vague, for me to jump behind them. As was pointed out earlier, it could have been any one of a number of assassinations that were referred to. As to 2012 and what will happen then. Guess I'll just wait and see.
Just a point to ponder though, when it is referred to as a death or destruction - is that meant to be physically or spiritually?
When there is a spiritual death there is also a re-birth. In tarot cards, the Death card does not always mean literally a death of someone - it can also mean the ending of something with the emotions/feelings of loss (normally associated with death) but it is also the beginning of something new...
Perhaps 2012 will be the ending of spiritual barriers.

So do I!
