and even though pushing him away under ^these circumstances is nothing more than an instinctive and natural reaction,

when she did, it was no joke (to him) anymore,

according to OP, her instinctive reaction "ACTUALLY PISSED him"

In my understanding, it's not the marriage that should lead to relocation.

It's other way around -

relocate first and see if your relationship will ever lead to marriage.

Or even better - do it locally
