You remind me of this neighbor of mine: in his late thirties/early forties with a huge belly, somewhat educated but worthless nevertheless; collecting welfare and food-stamps for many years and talking non-stop like one day he'll become famous, and really thin , and will get married to a 20-y-o beauty who'll worship him...

Yes, completely honest in private emails.

But not in forums. It's against CS rules.

It goes something like that - leave the thread if you are about to speak your mind, or something along these lines. If I understand rules correctly that is.

Sometimes being a good listener, a shoulder to cry on is a big deal. Offering a good advise worth a lot too.

But in general I agree with G. - long distance internet friendships leave you with this feeling of helplessness, of not being able to be there for a friend. Don't like it either.
